KINGJAY
Gifted with a voice comparable to the likes of Luciano or the late Dennis Brown singer Kingjay has been a regular on the UK sound system scene for several years. Born in London he spent his formative years growing up in Jamaica before returning to The UK where he finished his Schooling and begun his musical education.
Then known as Singjay he served his apprenticeship on youth sound Lord Creation before becoming a regular on East London’s top sound system King Original in 1986. It was king Original Owner Wazir Carnegie who encouraged the then Singjay’s early development as an artiste giving him his first recording opportunity.
His first release was the self penned "State of Mind" which made a huge impact leading to shows in Holland and France where the track really took life. Other releases on king Original Records included a combination with Steve Harper "Shake You Down" and a cover of the classic "Lets Stay Together."
His long stints on king Original exposed him to working him to many other artist in the reggae business such as Colorman, Little John, General Trees Sanchez, and Sugar Minot for whom he recorded "Never Too Late" Youth Promotion Label in 1990.
During the mid- 90s recordings for Yush Records again bought him to the forefront with songs like "Reach for the sky" and "Stop Messing Around" on the airwaves. Linking up with King Original’s Wazir Carnegie again in 2002/3 saw releases on his new Studio 55 label "Half Never Told" & "Mama Africa."
