Equifunk Mantra by Bootsy Collins
Q: Are there any words that you live by?
A: You have to bring some funk to get some. You can't walk in a place and expect to get some funk. If you ain't bringing no funk, then you can't get no funk. It like some guys say "Man. She didnt gimme some." But I say "She didnt give you none because you weren't bringing any yourself." You have to bring some funk to get some. Another thing is, you can't fake the funk or your nose will grow.

Band Members: PAPA GROWS FUNK Papa Grows Funk, from New Orleans - Just imagine the chops it takes to be voted the funkiest act in the world’s funkiest town. Out of the sweat-drenched, hard-partying, all-night mayhem of New Orleans comes Papa Grows Funk, winners of OffBeat magazine’s Funkiest Band award for two years running. All the requisite ingredients for an ear-tickling musical gumbo are here: steaming Hammond, chinky guitar, wailing sax, and, of course, a rhythm section heavy enough to keep you anchored to the dance floor. Following in the footsteps of the legendary Meters, PGF keeps its music unbelievably tight and its beats syncopated but greases it up with loose, jazzy improvisation.

THE JACK O’HARA BAND Jack O’ Hara and his band have held a steady Thursday night gig at Lucille’s (bar at B.B. Kings) for years. Jack’s band plays bluesy, cool, country-funk covers of Hendrix, Dylan and more. His sound is very much like J.J. Cale. For those unfamiliar with J.J. Cale, he has written songs such as Cocaine & After Midnight - made famous by the great Eric Clapton.

LEROY JUSTICE Leroy Justice is a Southern rock & soul band on the rise. From NYC, their influences are Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Otis Redding, James Brown & The Beatles.

"...their Southern-fried boogie is so faithful, it’s hard to believe these guys are from the big city and not from some Mountain Dewand Southern Comfort hollar..." All Music Guide

"NYC’s Leroy Justice has the same spark as early Black Crowes and Mother Hips. There’s enough twang to make you think it’s southern rock but the tender lyrical turns tie them closer to Springsteen and other Northeast roots rockers. Their debut is great and they kick ass live. Belly up to the bar and let them pour you a shot of what you need." Dennis Cook, Jambase
