Formed in 2004 in Kings County NYC, Her&KC have willingly foregone the trappings of a “normal†lifestyle, literally including the roofs over their heads, in favor of the pursuit of music. Since June 2008 the band has been on the road, map-dotting the country in a conversion van towing a trailer like an endless dysfunctional family vacation. Making it back to NYC only twice in 2008 and touring on a shoestring budget, it didn’t make much sense for them to pay rent on empty apartments so they gave them up, often in favor of a single hotel room. When the band finds itself with a rare week of downtime they can be found renting a house in some remote location writing, recording, and rehearsing.
If Hollywood were casting a movie about a non-stop band-on-the-run, they’d need look no further than the members of Her&KC. There’s Monique, the consummate front woman- she’s Robert Plant, David Lee Roth, and Fergie rolled into one; Caleb “KBC†Sherman holds down the musical fort playing just about any instrument ever made and producing and co-writing the band’s music; Brother Love on drums – The curly-haired Dean Martin, dedicated to the ladies; A. Wonder on lead guitar is the “rock star’s rock star†– somebody wake him up so we can get back on the road; bass player Nic DiPierro is the technology buff. You’ll find him online almost anytime; and Justin Sherman, the guitar player your mother should have warned you about.
From their three independently recorded and released CDs “City-Country,†“1609,†and the recently completed “Austin Bottom Road,†the countless video clips that can be found on their website, to graphic design, merchandise, and photography, Her&KC has been doing it their own way and it’s working.
They’ve been featured on CMT, GAC, in Country Weekly magazine, and even on CNN. They began making regular trips to in Nashville in early 2008 and the ever-expanding collective of new friends they’ve made is helping them grow their following in a big way. In just the past year they’ve had the opportunity to open not only for Kid Rock, but also for Montgomery Gentry, Jason Aldean, Kellie Pickler, Pat Green, Randy Houser, Shooter Jennings, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Charlie Daniels, and the list continues to grow.
Next stop – your town. It won’t be long before that conversion van is retired in favor of bigger wheels and bigger stages but until then if you see Her&KC coming, they’d sure appreciate a place to crash and a home-cooked meal. There’s probably a free CD in it for you!
"When you think of country music, New York City probably doesn't come to mind. But the Big Apple has always had a great country music scene and HER & Kings County are living proof…they're ready for the big time."
