Djibouti was born out of the funked-out sounds of New York City. They put out a soulful mix of funk/groove music with touches of afrobeat, latin, jazz and electronica. The rhythm section holds down the funky beats, while fiery horn lines blaze across the soundscape. They always get the room hoppin' and have been building a loyal following in the New York area playing venues like the Lion's Den, martini red , Williamsburg's laila lounge and Park Slope's southpaw.
Djibouti's influences include The Meters, the Greyboy Allstars, Galactic, The JB's, the fusion of Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis, Jimmy Smith, and MMW. The band's songs are organically generated from their chemistry in the studio, where often the smallest spark of an idea evolves into a full scale vehicle for the band to get down.
Their soaring sound is brought to the stage in performances that demonstrate the ability to write solid material, while giving each member room to embellish off on another and the audience. Djibouti has been playing the Brooklyn, S.I. and Manhattan scene as well as festivals on the East Coast, putting out sets that are consistently inspired and FUNKY.
