Spies LP - Available at iTunes , eMusic , and Juno
Its been three long years in the making but our new LP, Spies, is here!! And it's definitely been worth the wait.
"Spies" finds The Shift back and better than ever. This album takes on a more ambitious approach to their funky electro-acoustic house and downtempo style. Scottie B's chunky beats and samples lay the backdrop for the original band members to do their thing: Brian Fegan on guitar, Chris Tempas on keys, and Mike DeVellis on sax and flute. Newcomer Jeff Angel brings his thick, juicy basslines to the forefront. Vocalist Rhiannon joins the group again for the title track; a funky, up-tempo house cut. Accomplished singer-songwriter-innovator Bora Yoon collaborates on the slick downbeat cut "On This Side" while newcomer China Edelman lays down vocals over "Phone Song", a groovy house track.
The first two singles from the album have already enjoyed remixes from the likes of John Larner, P-rez and Nick Chacona. The most recent release - The Swoscillator EP - features remixes along with an extended DJ mix of the original track. The original cut takes you from funky breakbeat, through a half-time break filled with big bass and piano, straight to a jackin' 4-to-the-floor disco buildup featuring the sax of the one and only Mike D. Some big-time DJs and producers have gotten their hands on this release and had nice things to say.
Eric Davenport: "Loving the original. Perfect combination of funk and jazz while still maintaining a techy electronic edge."
Mark Farina: "Original is a nice 'acid jazzyish' groove. Digging the Chacona mix for a chunky dancefloor interpretation."
Doc Martin: "Really feeling the Nick Chacona mix. Nice and laidback but still will move a dancefloor."
Funky Transport: "YAY... something instantly unforgettable… this will be getting heavy rotation."
Jota Wagner: "it..s a FIVE stars ep! no more to say.. full support."
Tomas Palermo: "Some really forward tracks -- very original and soulful in a unique way."
Tyler Stadius: "Nick's remix is super class. Timeless!"
Rick Preston: "All three mixes are rockin!!!"
Jay West: "rrrrockin!"
