What is GROTESQUE BURLESQUE???
Grotesque Burlesque is a collective of young, Louisville ladies who are mixing the traditional burlesque presentation with contemporary themes, sharply satirical humor, & a “punk rock†attitude. Although often difficult to capture the essence of the show with words alone, the troupe describes itself as "female-centric underground performance art." With firm roots in the local “scene,†this troupe presents burlesque with a more “gothic†edge, as evidenced in their aesthetic, as well as their choices in music.
As Louisville's FIRST full-time burlesque troupe, the girls have received regular local media coverage ---- PRINT appearances in the Courier-Journal, LEO, Velocity, Voice-Tribune, G3, & the Louisville Cardinal; RADIO coverage on the airwaves of 93.1 The Fox, 105.1 WLRS, 98.9 KISS FM, 99.7 WDJX, 93.1 WFPK, & even LITE 106.9; TELEVISION cameos/performances on the Fox 41 Morning Show, WAVE 3 Listens, & the WLKY Morning Show. The troupe was even named the “Best Local Performing Arts Group†in the both the 2005 AND 2006 LEO Reader’s Choice Awards.
Since their debut in 2004, the Grotesque Burlesque has performed at events hosted by Louisville venues including Headliners, the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center, the University of Louisville, club Exile, the Iroqouis Amphitheatre, Ramsi's Cafe on the World, Main Street Lounge, Sumshee’s, the Paul Palleti Gallery, Comedy Caravan, Bar of Louisville/Have a Nice Day Cafe, Red Lounge, the Bizarre Cafe, Phoenix Hill Tavern, Bulldog Café, Uncle Pleasants, Petrus, Expo5, Elmo's, Saints, Coyote's, the Rudyard Kipling, the Brickhouse, Art Sanctuary, & the Riverbend Winery. the troupe has also performed at the Vault in Indianapolis and Nashville.
The most amazing thing about the GB troupe is the wide variety of venues they have performed in. The girls have performed at numerous local music halls [with goth, punk, metal, & even FOLK bands]; provided entertainment for art gallery openings, charitable benefits, & fashion shows; & have appeared regularly at events hosted by the University of Louisville.
The Grotesque Burlesque provides a fun, sexy, & intelligent addition to virtually ANY performance line-up, goth or not!
