About Me

Viva!'s birthday's coming! If mis amigos want to buy me a gift, check out my wish list...Gracias!Viva!'s dance bio: “Burlesque performance is all about appreciating your own femininity, your own unique beauty, learning to love your body no matter what size, representing beauty and grace in every color and lifestyle, and being able to perform because you love sharing your artistic expressions with an audience." Viva Valezz! has been performing in the Midwest for almost a decade! She studied in Columbus, OH with Habeeba's Dance of the Arts school since 1999, and has been a dance instructor since 2001. Viva! has always been a natural performer, forcing her family to watch her do her own variety shows in the living room since the age of 4. Her formal training includes a little tap, a little modern, a little country line dance, and a lot of bellydance. She danced tribal style bellydance and basic Turkish-style for a few years in Northern California before moving to Ohio in the late 90s. Viva! has danced from coast to coast - Miami to Detroit, San Francisco to Somerset, NJ. Viva!'s most exciting dance experience came when she travelled to Morocco (Northern Africa) with her California bellydance sisters to perform in various venues and regions, from bedoin dance on the Sahara Desert to cabaret style at a popular Marrakesh resort hotel. Viva! began her exciting adventures in burlesque in 2007... and is loving sharing this saucy dance personality with any audience who will have her! ----------Viva! produces the ongoing girlie revue, "Viva!'s Red Light Girlie Show" in beautiful Short North / Columbus, OH, featuring beautiful cornfed girls of the Midwest!Layout made byTo book Viva!, email [email protected] or call 614-843-4844 (THE-HUGG).

To learn more about burlesque, OR before you judge me, please read this: "Burlesque is about bringing women together through our mutual sexuality, common fantasies and the natural beauty of each individual female body. One of the best things about burlesque is that the women who perform don’t fit into a cookie cutter mold of “appropriate body-type.” We are all women, all curves, some more on top, some more on bottom, every single one of us has cellulite, we eat cupcakes, candy, drink sodas on stage… After all, we aren’t trying to “be” anything other than normal women who are also sex goddesses. ----Ultimately, the “meaning” of burlesque is up to the viewer. But if you listen to what I’m saying—watch what I’m saying—when I’m on stage you’ll start to notice the difference between burlesque and stripping. I’m not saying, “Look at me because I’m a female and I can get you sexually excited.” I’m saying, “I’m letting you look at me because I’m okay with my body and I am a sexual and creative creature and what I offer is a gift to all I give it to.” ----The point is we open ourselves up in order to discover our own freedom and power. We go against everything we have been brought up to believe is “good” for self-respecting girls. But I’ll tell you, I have more respect for myself now than I ever did before I started performing burlesque. I have challenged myself, my self-image, my standing in society and with my family. I’m risking a lot, but I’ve gained so much more. If you’re performing burlesque for the right reasons you’ll never be looked down upon by anyone who is worth being seen by, because it is the inner beauty that shines in spite of the presumptions and the “dirty” connotations it holds for some. The fact is, if an audience member isn’t comfortable with female bodies (specifically your own body) then please don’t come. I can’t make you see your own fat thighs as beautiful. I can only show you that I think my fat thighs are." AMEN! ---- From the article, "NeoBurlesque: A Feminist Ideal," by Linsey Lindburg (aka Mama Lou) from Satya Magazine.

Books:

Margaret Cho: "I was so amazed when I saw the (burlesque)performance. There were women with all different body types, ages, races, and you could tell they were so happy and comfortable with their bodies. I was crying when I saw it, it really cured me." For Cho, who performed burlesque on her tour "The Sensuous Woman," burlesque was not about sexualizing herself as much as it was about emancipating her from the idea that her body is a prison. "We are so conditioned to a certain look that models have, and people think that's the only kind of body that can be beautiful and sexual, and that's not true, everybody has that ability."

Heroes:

Charo, Sophia Loren, Ann-Margret, Bettie Page, Habeeba, and all the hot latina ladies in my family. My burlesque heroes Dita & Princess & Jo://///XXXXX/////
