Friggin' Kings of Power Pop - TRUE RUMOR

About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 After nearly a twenty year absence, those Middle-Aged Masters of PowerPop TRUE RUMOR are proud to announce the release of their long-awaited third CD "Songs from the Turnpike Road"!!! "Songs From the Turnpike Road" is also now available as a MP3 CD download via Amazon , Itunes , Rhapsody , and Napster.

A little bit of history: True Rumor originally formed in 1986. Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist Steve Meko and Drummer Bobby Lee Moller had both been members of the New York City based Hardcore Punk band "Victims of Society", which had disbanded in 1985. Steve and Bobby set out to form a band with a straight ahead rock sound. Their first recruit was Bassist Tim Boyland, who was a member of VOS indie labelmates "The Dispositions". Paul Stanich was soon added ..boards, making the original line-up of True Rumor complete. This line-up released True Rumors Debut album "Silent Generation" in February 1988 on Catch Em Records. The Eight Song LP was recorded at Noise New York Studios in NYC between 1986-1987. "Silent Generation" was recorded with Huw Gower (Guitarist with The Records, Graham Parker, and David Johansen) lending production assistance. Paul Stanich left the band in 1988 to persue his interest in Music Production in Nashville, prompting True Rumor to enlist Lead Guitarist Kenny Newton. True Rumor soon began work on their sophomore effort - a 13 song CD titled "Knee Deep in Circumstance" which was released in 1989 on the MiniTrue Music label. The CD was recorded at Mix-O-Lydian studios with engineer Don Sternecker, and was self-produced.
True Rumor played the New York City club circuit extensively from 1984 through 1989, Including such illustrious dives as The Limelight, Stone Pony, The Bitter End, Kennys Castaways, and Maxwells. In addition to their two album releases, in 1987 they released one 45 titled "Iowa" b/w "Something More" on their own True Music label. True Rumor appeared on Four Compilation releases in the 80's - "Silent Generation" appeared on "City Tracks One" and "Iowa" appeared on "City Tracks Three", both released Indie label Catch Em Records. "Random Fire" was featured on the CD "Greetings From New Jersey" released by Westwood Records. "Winning Track" was featured on the CD "Fresh Kills" released by NYC Radio Station WSIA. True Rumor disbanded in 1989. The band reformed in 2005, when Statue Records re-released True Rumor's CD "Knee Deep in Circumstance". Lead Guitarist Motor City Tom Wright was soon added to the fold. "Unmistakable Feeling" - a cut off of "Turnpike Road" has been featured on an Australian Indie-label Smashed Records Power Pop Compilation titled "Invaders from Planet Pop" in November '07. Check out the Smashed Records site on MySpace and pick up a copy!
