About Me

..
Formed whilst still at school, members Davy Knowles (guitars/vocals/mandolins) , Ross Doyle (drums) and Adam Jones (bass) have been firmly rooted in blues music from a young age. After giging around their native Isle of Man for 2 years, they have spent the last 18months extensively touring America, playing festivals like Austin City Limits, SXSW, Download & Lollapalooza and supporting legends like The Who, Kid Rock & Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, REO Speedwagon and Grammy Award winning fellow Running Media artist Corinne Bailey Rae. They launched their debut album 'Roll Away' in 2007, which has enjoyed a top ten spot in the Billboard Blues Chart for most of that time. Managed by Bob Miller (Corinne Bailey Rae) and signed to Blix Street Records, they have each now turned 21 and hope to go on to carve out a successful career from their high-energy blues rock.
"I heard the spirit of Jimi Hendrix coming from the open, street side windows of a joint called B.D. Riley's. It was 'Red House,' executed superbly by a surprisingly young trio called Back Door Slam, from the Isle of Man in the U.K. The club was packed and so was the street outside. Folks were transfixed by this kid on guitar who played with a fiery spirit and sang with conviction, making the song his own." - Patrick MacDonald, Seattle Times
"If 'Roll Away' isn't a hit then every rock music writer (myself included) is responsible. The album is a grenade launcher; it's an incendiary device, it's a melodic, melancholy and effervescent cannon ball set to music." - Jason Hood, Time Out Music Columnist
"Roll Away is permeated with songs that are as equally at home in a smoke-filled bar as they are on a balmy afternoon in a wicker chair on a screened-in porch. The moods range from the soft, slow-dance feel of 'Gotta Leave' to the yowling 'Real Man' which evokes The Ides of March's 'Vehicle' in its chorus. The listing also includes a bonus track, a rockier remix of 'Real Man', to finish out the album and put an exclamation point to this first musical statement from a band with a lot of heart and soul." - Music Review by R.J. Carter
