About Me

Hi! I'm Olivia. One of the first things people (and you...well, I guess you would fall under the category of "people"...) probably notice about me, either by being around me, or by the simple look of this page, is that my music is my life. Maybe not my music...as I've only ever seriously recorded 3 songs on my own...none one of which I wrote personally...but the music I enjoy is what makes my world go 'round. Check out my background for some of my recent favorites, and my "Music" section for favorites with MySpace pages, and then quite a detailed list of what I enjoy...to every extent.
I was an intern at Reflection Sound Studios in Charlotte over the summer, and I also ran sound for Bill Hanna's Vintage Dance Band at Grand Central Events. This summer was one of the most amazing I've ever had. I'll never forget the experiences I had and the people I met and all of the fun I had!
I'm back at school now, though! I go to Columbia College. It's a women's college in Columbia, SC. So no, there aren't any male students...and it's not that bad. Even for straight women like myself. School's enough to keep one busy, anyway. We are the Columbia College Fighting Koalas. Yes, it's hilarious, I know. But I like being a cute little ferocious beast. It's misleading...which is sometimes a good attack strategy. I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore...
Oh yeah, school...I'm now officially a business major. As crazy as I might be, I feel like I'm definitely getting myself on the right track for what I want to do with my life. I didn't abdandon music completely, though...still a music minor. But I want to be in music business...and we don't quite have a "music business" program here, so that seems like my best option. Getting involved in the music business around here drives me nuts...but it drives me...and that's the point.
One of the greatest experiences I've had so far was helping one of my favorite people in the world, Randy Franklin, coordinate the Spongetones tribute show that happened on October 6th in Charlotte. It was a lot of fun, stress, happiness, and excitement, but overall it was one of the greatest learning experiences I've ever had in my life. Not only the night of the show, but the months of work leading up to it have given me more direction in my life. Now, onto the next project...:-).
I also run (or have started, or help maintain) several MySpace profile pages for musicians, so if you need some help with that, feel free to contact me. Also, something I enjoy doing that a lot of people might see as a burden is transferring old media to digital files. (And yes, I realize this is making me sound like an ultra-nerd.) I can transfer cassette tapes and vinyls to digital MP3s (or other audio file types). Ever need help with a project? I'll see what I can do!
If you really want to know anything else, send me a message on here, or an IM. My Yahoo! Messenger and AIM IDs are both homonymgirl .
One thing I'm getting involved in now is helping to organize and promote Charlotte Pop Fest. This is a 2-day indoor event showcasing pop and powerpop music from the Carolinas, and even some national acts. Here's the line-up in no particular order:

My Interests

Music is pretty apparent...I go to as many live shows as I possibly can. Many times, two per weekend. I do enjoy a good book every now and again. Even ones that frustrate me, I consider good sometimes. I like art, as well, especially graphic design and that sort of thing, and even painting and drawing I have recently discovered are quite enjoyable if you put enough effort into them. And as cliche as it might sound, spending time with good friends is always pretty soothing. Or disrupting...whichever way you want to look at it...it's always a good time.

I'd like to meet:

I'd really like to meet someone who can explain to me what life is all about, and have it make sense to me. But until that happens...good people who are into good music, people who want to get into the music business, like me...
