There comes a time for every artist when they must leave the relative comfort of being a sideman and lead their own group, in order to fully express their musical persona. With the worldwide CD release of Evolution/Revolution (Reservoir), pianist Martin Bejerano is doing just that, and more. Having toured for the past six years as pianist with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Roy Haynes and Russell Malone, Martin has performed at nearly all the major jazz festivals, clubs, and concert halls across the world, and recorded numerous albums including the Grammy nominated Fountain of Youth (Dreyfus) with the Roy Haynes Quartet—drawing consistent critical praise and accolades. Throughout, Martin has been working and reworking his own music, culminating in the explosive, imaginative, and highly modern music that is Evolution/Revolution. Recorded at Avatar studios in New York City by acclaimed engineer Jim Anderson, this recording seeks to evolve jazz music, marking the creative revolution in jazz taking place today. Martin combines astounding technique, advanced rhythmic concepts, and a fresh modern harmonic approach, yet always remains melodic, spontaneous, and firmly rooted in the history of jazz. A unique blend of modern jazz, Latin, and pop styles, timeless standards and inventive originals, Evolution/Revolution also features the creative and fiery drumming of Ludwig Afonso (Spyro Gyra, Sammy Figueroa, Hector Martignon), and the solid rhythmic and interactive bass playing of Edward Perez (George Garzone, Lionel Loueke), introducing one of the most exciting and creative piano trios in jazz today.

Sounds Like: "Add Martin Bejerano to the expanding roster of hot young pianists that stretches from Hiromi Uehara and Eldar Djangirov to Robert Glasper and Taylor Eigsti...(The trio's) take on Miles Davis’ “Solar” is so convincing, so mature, that the guys could almost be mistaken for Keith Jarrett’s standards trio...What a debut. The other young guns should watch out for this guy."-Steve Greenlee (Jazz Times)“When technique, an advanced harmonic sense and lyrical playfulness meet on a plane of self-control, as is heard in Martin Bejerano, one has to marvel. A brilliant, young Miami-born pianist who lives in New York, and who is a highlight in bands led by Roy Haynes and Russell Malone, Bejerano has shaped his own post-Corea/Jarrett/Zeitlin blend with Cuban influences. Here, he makes a strong debut as leader, with on-the-case backing from bassist Edward Perez and drummer Ludwig Afonso.”- Zan Stewart (Newark Star Ledger)
“…this promising young pianist is not just the latest hotshot showing off his technique, but a mature pianist who can develop his ideas into performances that will stand the test of time.”- Ken Dryden (All Music Guide)
“With his debut as leader, pianist Martin Bejerano tackles Jazz’s mainstream and comes up winning. His acoustic trio interprets this program of standards and originals with aplomb, turning each song over to a detailed inspection of what makes it memorable.” - Jim Santella (Cadence)
“Bejerano makes the most of a full and fluent style.”- Nate Chinen (New York Times)
“…versatility reminiscent of Brad Mehldau and Chick Corea…”- Adam Gold (Boston Phoenix.com)
