About Me

USA TODAY PICKS Before Love Has Gone AS A TOP CD OF 2008!Stevie Holland continues to chart her own path as a completely original artist and unique song stylist. A dynamic performer and intelligent lyricist, she’s traversed many musical worlds, headlining at top concert halls, jazz clubs and cabaret rooms, developing an unusually eclectic fan base. In the last few years, her repertoire, phrasing and innate sense of swing have been turning critics’ heads and earning her great respect as a rising star in jazz. Her new CD Before Love Has Gone is a collection of rarely recorded classics, standards and original songs, including the title track penned by Stevie and award winning composer Gary William Friedman. Grammy award winner Todd Barkan has joined forces as co-producer with Tim Peierls and Friedman, helping to shape what promises to be Stevie’s most important release yet.Backing Stevie is Martin Bejerano on piano, Edward Perez on bass and Willie Jones III on drums, with guest appearances by Ole Mathisen on sax and Paul Bollenback on guitar.Stevie’s last two releases More Than Words Can Say and Restless Willow charted at radio stations across the country, ending up on a variety of top ten lists including KSDS FM, San Diego, CA’s Top Ten CDs of the Year and the Cape Fear Jazz Appreciation Society in NC’s Top Ten CDs of the Year. The track “This Is It” on More Than Words Can Say crossed over to the smooth jazz world and remained in the top 25 on the RadioWave Jazz/Fusion chart for 2 months. On Restless Willow, Stevie recorded "Jeg Elsker Dig", a haunting Norwegian love ballad (co-written with Friedman, based on an Edvard Grieg classic), which made such an impact on the Norwegian community, that Stevie was invited to sing it for the King and Queen of Norway.Among other Holland-Friedman songwriting projects, Stevie can be heard singing a theme song for Joey Reynolds, the popular Rock n' Roll Hall-of-Famer/ Radio talk show host, which is played nightly on his national program.Stevie continues to grow as an all-encompassing artist, and her sense of humor, vulnerability, swinging jazz phrasing and sheer vocal beauty shine through better than ever with Before Love Has Gone.

Sounds Like: “Effortless swing and a radiant wit…a self-possessed tour de force.”
- Gary Giddins“It just doesn’t get any better than this…I hear Stevie Holland and I get goose bumps. Need I say more?”
- Scott O'Brien, SMOOTHJAZZ.COM“Carrying her torch with a light, sure hand, Holland makes the Sammy Fain/Yip Harburg tune both seductive and achingly pure.”
- Elysa Gardner, USA TODAY“Before Love Has Gone shows that Holland’s brilliantly captivating More Than Words Can Say was no fluke…I could go on and on, but instead, I will abbreviate in conclusion by emphasizing that I could listen to this lady all day.”
- George Harris, ALL ABOUT JAZZ,
Los Angeles, San Francisco-Bay Area, Chicago Edition“The perfect pitch of her voice and its bell-like clarity are the obvious reasons why many critics consider her the finest young vocalist on the jazz scene today. That she also writes quality songs (with her husband/arranger, Gary William Friedman)--such as Before Love Has Gone and The Music In Me That Plays--are further reasons why she is verging on the brink of stardom.”
- Willard Manus, LIVELY ARTS.COM
"Every woman who has needed to sing the blues over a cad wishes she could handle it with the class and elegance of Stevie Holland...Holland handles her melodic phrasing with maturity, total command and aplomb, and the emotional vulnerability of a woman who is completely honest with herself and comfortable in her skin..."

- Susan Frances, JAZZ REVIEW.com“Highly recommended”
- Ken Dryden, AMG **** Album Pick“Stevie Holland delivers a consistently high level performance throughout the album. Backed by a group of wonderfully sensitive accompanists and an appealing variety of musical material, this album is tops from beginning to end.”
- Clive Griffin, JAZZIMPROV Magazine"Whether the songs are those of Rogers and Hart or Irving Berlin’s or her own beautiful originals, this recording captures the essence of jazz singing at its best."
- Paula Edelstein, SOUNDS OF TIMELESS JAZZ“Her sound is as pure and potent as aqua vitae, as warm and richly mature as vieille rèserve cognac. There is also an enticing stillness about Stevie Holland that can alternately suggest a fountain crafted of the smoothest, creamiest Carrera marble or a roaring fire, its flames reflected in deep-polished oak...”
- Christopher Loudon, JAZZTIMES Magazine“When Stevie Holland wants to, she can swing more than a little…a good singer, no matter how crowded the field gets…”
- Jeff Simon, THE BUFFALO NEWS"Last night I had the delightful privilege in hearing the singing voice of Stevie Holland on the Joey Reynolds WOR Radio Show. So beautifully full in quality is her voice that I could listen to her without any musical accompaniment at all. She fills a room."
- The Amazing KRESKIN
