Tommy Allen was born in Youngstown Ohio... a relatively small Midwestern city with no major musical outlets to speak of. The step-son of a preacher, he was raised in church and saturated with gospel music. As he got older he took great interest in Classical and Jazz as well as Gospel. Never really a fan of popular mainstream music... he spent a great deal of his time listening to Legendary singers like Donny Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Louis Armstrong....etc. What impressed him the most about these singers was their dedication to their craft, the feeling their voices conveyed, and their originality... and he has since been determined to follow suit.
Since leaving home and starting out on his musical journey, he has been mainly behind the scenes learning the industry, singing backgrounds for already major artists as well as current up and coming artists on tours, and doing studio sessions... but now he has decided to step to the forefront... and he couldn't have picked a better time.
Unlike many other singers, Tommy doesn't just pay lip service to R&B's forefathers; he incorporates their legacy into his music. His goal is not to become a celebrity, his main focus is to help bring music back to where it needs to be. In an industry overrun by gimmicks, fads, pretty faces with minimal talent, and style over substance... this young man's voice stands out and demands attention. It is his main goal to show the world that it is ok to be original... that real singers who take pride in their craft should be supported... that music can still make you feel something.
