Randy Winterdal is a gifted bassplayer and composer with a specific sound and is well-known in the Netherlands and the Netherlands Antilles. Born on the Caribbean island of Curacao, he started at the age of 15 to play bassguitar in local bands. His talent was soon recognized by local Jazz artist Rudy Emerenciana, who invited him to play in the first Jazzcafé on the island. Later on he left the island to study at the Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands. Randy eventually developed quite a reputation as an allround bassplayer and a fine soloist. He was a member of the Jazz Trio Cross Currents. This group won the Dutch Oranjeboom Award in 1997. Furthermore he played in the band of Surinam fluteplayer/ composer Ronald Snijders. He also plays Latin Jazz and Salsa music with the Venezuelan percussionist Gerardo Rosales, Orquesta Cheveron, FP La banda, Orquesta Bembe and multicultural Jazz with the group Crianzas. As a freelance bassplayer he works with Caribbean artists like the Curacaoan piano-virtuoso Randal Corsen, flamboyant vocalist Izaline Calister and Dutch lyrical vocalist Ino Kruysen. Apart from these activities he dedicates his time to composing, creating several musical projects such as the suite "The Garden" and other works for orchestra and small ensemble. On his debut CD "Ku pasonan chikÃ"- which means 'small steps' in the Papiamentu language - he blends groovy Antillean folkmusic with contemporary influences from Jazz and World music. This musical style can be described as Antillean World Jazz. Nowadays he leads his band in order to present his music to the audiences.
