"Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true. ~Buddha
I'd Like to Meet:
A real pirate from the days of yore ;^) From a distance (if there's some kind of wicked trench mouth goin' on.) Gross. (I know... - not very pirate-like of me)
I'd LOVE to meet the person or Being (even if it's within all of us) that can answer:
What is this true purpose of our lives anyway? Why are we here with these inflated ego's, or this false reality, and why the over powering drive to procreate? Are greed and/or evil inherent or learned?
But, until then... here's the *short* list of my heroes:
John Lennon, Kahlil Gibran, John Brown, Abraham Lincoln, Helen Keller, Carl Jung, Martin Luther King, Jr., Bob Marley (Redemption Song makes me cry every time), Martine Rothblatt, Virginia Woolf, Thomas Paine, Hunter S. Thompson, Sojourner Truth, Robert Anton Wilson, Timothy Leary, Terence McKenna, Rupert Sheldrake, Mark Twain, Tom Morello, Leonardo DaVinci, Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, Dalai Lama, Betty Friedan, Naomi Wolf, Ani DiFranco, Pablo Picasso, Michael Moore, Jerry Quickley, Harriet Tubman, Howard Stern & Co., Randi Rhodes (talk radio host Queen). I've been able to scratch off Incubus, and Adam Duritz. Although, when I met Adam, I was rendered speechless and said something strange and stalker-ish like, "I love you." DOH! I normally never get star struck. I think I'd respond the same if meeting Howard. But that's about it.
Who I'll Eventually Meet or hopefully(in some kind of capacity):
Aleister Crowley, Andrew Huxley, Leonard Huxley, Aldous Huxley, Thomas Huxley, Sinclair Lewis, Johnny Cash (epitome of cool) Ambrose Bierce, Malcolm X, Howard Zinn, Robert Ingersoll, Jesus of NAZARETH (not the man in your *book* - but the real teacher of peace and tolerance that your book describes - as you invoke this peace makers name while condemning and excluding any one who is different than YOU), Camille Paglia, Viktor Schauberger, Karl Marx (yeah, that's right. I said it. F-you if you don't like it. You are one of the sheep.
*if this weren't written, you'd detect the subtle nuances and know that I'm smiling as I type this*),
Angela Davis, Friedrich Nietzsche, Edgar Allen Poe, my mom (I mean, meet her NOW, that I'm an adult), Jon Stewart, Peaches (did I tell you that she fucking rocks!?!), King Ludwig II, Bill Hicks, Robert Ingersoll, Sylvia Plath, Philip K. Dick, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, the old Pope's (I want the scoop on the new, completely scary looking Pope who demands Prada slippers. Whatever happened to forsaking all material posessions?? hmmmm?? And why the giant hat??? - I can say these things, I used to be Catholic... and my Uncle was a Bishop... and there's nothing wrong with curiosity), ...and mAnn Coulter - just to see if you really can see an Adam's Apple in that giraffe like man-neck. Ha ha! Kinda sounds like "manic." If the size 15 manic man-shoe fits... OH - and Deepak Chopra - I LOVE his message and advice, but sometimes I question the (greed based) capitalist-style of his constant plugging and mass-marketing -- although, I'm becoming more convinced that it is a sincere effort to change this world's collective consciousness -- just wondering. I'm allowed to ask questions, right? A guitar string makes no music without some tension. My dream interview would be with Deepak Chopra and Richard Dawkins - at the same time of course.
I have a non-sexual crush on Sarah Silverman and Janeane Garofalo. I'm in love with their minds. And they're a couple of hotties too. I have more of an innocent-nothing-would-ever-happen-because-I'm-a-total-wuss crush on: Josie Moran and Kate Winslet.
Your Social Dysfunction:
Happy
You're a happy person - you have a good amount of self-esteem, and are socially healthy. While this isn't a social dysfunction per se, you're definitely not normal. Consider yourself lucky: you walk that fine line between 'normal' and being outright narcissistic. You're rare - which is something else to be happy about.

I completely LOVE every one of those songs/clips in my jukebox over there, especially the Joe Rogan/Jim Breuer clips. (I'm very passionate about my music and radio demigods. But I'm missing Stern clips. They are hard to come by...)
I love rock, classical, folk, some pop stuff, ambient, blues, jazz - latin jazz, standards, blues -- all jazz. Great music can move me to tears. It should move you to tears, if you let it in.
Counting Crows, Incubus, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Peaches (the most kick-ass chick EVER www.peachesrocks.com), NIN, System of a Down, Sia (not sure why, but Breathe makes my heart literally ache - the broad's voice is like friggin' chocolate), The Used, The Strokes, White Stripes, Augustana, Garbage, Muse, QOTSA, Audioslave, MCR, Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette, John Mayer (Continuum is an amazing leap forward), Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, STP, Soundgargen, Queensryche, Tesla, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Staind, Stereophonics, Sting, Van Morrison, Zero 7, Sia, Led Zep, Jeff Buckley, Marvin Gaye, Pete Yorn, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Maria McKee, Queen, Portishead, Beethoven (1st Rockstar), Yo Yo Ma, Joss Stone and...

I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now? ~John Lennon

If you sincerely desire a truly well-rounded education, you must study the extremists, the obscure and "nutty." You need the balance! Your poor brain is already being impregnated with middle-of-the-road crap, twenty-four hours a day, no matter what. Network TV, newspapers, radio, magazines at the supermarket... even if you never watch, read, listen, or leave your house, even if you are deaf and blind, the telepathic pressure alone of the uncountable normals surrounding you will insure that you are automatically well-grounded in consensus reality. ~Rev. Ivan Stang, High Weirdness By Mail
And what is a good citizen? Simply one who never says, does or thinks anything that is unusual. Schools are maintained in order to bring this uniformity up to the highest possible point. A school is a hopper into which children are heaved while they are still young and tender; therein they are pressed into certain standard shapes and covered from head to heels with official rubber-stamps. ~H.L. Mencken
I have always been impressed by the fact that there are a surprising number of individuals who never use their minds if they can avoid it, and an equal number who do use their minds, but in an amazingly stupid way."~ Carl Jung
Advertising is a valuable economic factor because it is the cheapest way of selling goods, particularly if the goods are worthless. ~Sinclair Lewis
I've been listening to Sirius satellite radio programming pretty much exclusively these days. The programming is FAR more substantial and entertaining. I highly recommend Howard Stern on 100/101
Breuer Unleashed on 104 1-3pm - repeat@ 3-6pm PST
Bubba on 101 12-4pm - repeat@11pm - 2am PST,
and I get my sports from the ONLY sports broadcaster I can *stomach*: Scotty Ferrall 5-9pm - repeats at Tim Sabean's whim. LOVE that guy.
The ONLY shows worth sitting in front of the "Great Sedation Machine" to me are: Rome -- Weeds -- The Soprano's -- Ed vs. Spencer
My advice to ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN is to TURN IT ALL OFF! I swear that my overall stress level has dropped at LEAST 30% over the last couple of years, after I stopped letting myself get manipulated and brainwashed by:
#1) Corporate Media - I can form my OWN opinions. I don't need the Mormon poster-boy/girl telling me what I should think, how I should feel, who is worthy of my vote. (How can people view news as "entertainment"? It's grotesque.)
#2) Television shows controlled by network, media conglomerate, douche bags. (Take a break and you'll realize how BAD the programming really is - promise.)
#3) Commercial after commercial after commercial. Everyone dangling the carrot in front of my face -- telling and convincing me that I really WANT what they're selling. It's a vicious circle of working, then purchasing and consuming -- and having to go back to work to get more money to spend.
"We are sorry in the most sarcastic sense of the word." ~ Ignignokt
Promise me you won't watch "news" anymore. Take a 1 week break and watch your stress level dip. Why do you need to know about the missing blonde-du-jour on the other side of the country? Yes, it's very heartbreaking. But honestly, how does it effect your life? I'm not advocating that you become selfish. Just get rid of unnecessary stress. Turn it off! Let your mind take a break. Stop letting them "sell" you every second. Stop allowing them to scare you with a 24 hour Terror Watch/FIRESTORM 2007!/Bird Flu Pandemic! They need us to need them. Desperately.
I'm telling you... watch Antz and then read Nation of Fear. Then you'll get it. For extra *awakening*, read "Lies My Teacher Told Me" -- there's an audio book if reading's not your "thing".
Once you take a step back and remove yourself from The Matrix-like plug of the television, you will clearly see how every thing is manipulated and it all boils down to $MONEY$, and how to get their greedy hands ON your $cash$.
You will see how insanely stupid network television programming is. And how insanely stupid they must feel their viewing audience is. Talk about the "dumbing down" of America.
When you DO catch a network sitcom, reality show, or news talking-heads-blowhard show, you'll actually feel yourself getting dumber with each minute viewed. I swear it!
After viewing parts of American Idol last season, I actually felt the brain cells leave my fucking head! I had to read a book to jumpstart the dying brain cells. Close call.
But it's not really stupidity. It's more of a conditioning. It's like a gigantic sedative they electronically feed you to make you calm the F down and forget about *real* issues.
It steals your *time*. And that is the ONE thing for certain, you can never get back.
Have you ever lost someone and thought, "I should have spent more time with them."
"There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness." ~Carl Jung

What is the meaning of human life, or of organic life altogether? To answer this question at all implies a religion. Is there any sense then, you ask, in putting it? I answer, the man who regards his own life and that of his fellow creatures as meaningless is not merely unfortunate but almost disqualified for life. ~Albert EinsteinThe World as I See It, 1934
*Any person who speaks, teaches or searches for truth.
*Any person who speaks the truth, especially when they stand to lose something or everything.
*Any person whose heart is so great that they take strides (or even small steps) towards helping humanity and nature, without asking, "What do I get out of it??
Any person who gives time or money to charity, and doesn't give a fucking Press Release of their "altruistic deeds" and start looking for accolades. Asshats.
Martine Rothblatt maybe an example of how we should have evolved as a society by now, if it weren't for religion, government and Big Biz (pharmaceuticals, etc.) hindering our social evolution process. He and his family are the epitome of acceptance and tolerance - champions of humanity. They are truly beautiful and I have nothing but complete admiration for them.

Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of intoxication with success
The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.
