About KatarinaRecorder player Katarina Widell is one of Sweden’s most successful young wind players. In April 2008 she competed in the finals of the â€Solo Prize Award†in Sweden. She played pieces by Giuseppe Sammartini and Fredrik Österling toghether with Helsingborg Symphony Orcherstra.
Katarina concluded her studies at KMH for Professors Clas Pehrsson & Dan Laurin by graduating with a Doctorate and she was the only soloist diploma student in 2007 to be awarded a medal of distinction (belöningsjetong).
Her amazing stage presence and sparkling technique have captured the hearts and fascination of her audience in a short time. In November 2007 she released her CD NADIR and received one of the highest music scholarships in Sweden, The Rosenborg-Gehrmans scholarship..
She has appeared as a soloist with Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Västerås Sinfonietta and with Drottningholm's Baroque Ensemble. Katarina has also played at the Medieval Festival in Arboga, the Aros Festival in Västerås and at Stockholm Early Music Festival [SEMF].
"Katarina Widell's playing is both challenging and classical. A sparkling technique can unmask enigmatic art and make everything appear simple. Her repertoire spans over one thousand years of western music, she nurtures and develops this cultural heritage with an artists respect for the unfamiliar and an instrumentalist's penchant for inquisitive playfulness. A great stage presence with respectful humility towards her music and her audience […]."(Dan Laurin, from KMH's diploma jury comments)
"Not only does she play brilliantly whatever the genre, but she also captivates the audience with her joyful radiation." (Birgit Ahlberg-Hyse, Vestmanlands Läns Tidning (Vestermanlands county newspaper).
