Steppin' Out

STEPPIN' UP TO THE GROOVE!!!

About Me

Firstly, the band's name comes from John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers tune Steppin' Out which is Cath, Harvey and Tom giving the nod to their British heritage. Tom wanted to call the band "The Cath Butler Trio" - but we'd heard that name before somewhere or something similar!?With the exception of Cath - all the other members of the band have been in the game for many many years. Harvey, whose been in Oz for about 10 years now, played with blues bands in London and WA before thankfully arriving on our doorstep in BrizVegas. George even played with Ross Ward back in the 70's when they were sweet young thangs! and we believe George might even of had hair then!Cath on the other hand - well she started fronting blues bands at the tender age of 47! This time around she's found a line up that are as keen as she is to get the type of songs she wants to sing out there!!Having a few years under her belt of course means she's grown up listening to some of the best around. Her early influences were from some of the Soul greats such as Otis Reading, Carla Thomas and Sam and Dave. But also plenty of exposure listening to some of the best of Bristish Blues, such as Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall, The Animals, Long John Baldry and The Stones. She even remembers seeing Jimmi Hendrix live at the tender age of 14!Cath also get's a lot of her live performance inspiration from Harvey - lead guitarist in the Steppin' Out band. Harvey lives, eats, breathes and sleeps his blues - and is the kind of player that the punters love to watch - he quite literally pours every ounce of his being into his live performances and Cath never quite knows who the crowd is is actually watching - her or Harvey! Sometimes Cath will pick a song to sing just because she loves the guitar part.....and because it gives her an opportunity to watch Harv go into meltdown!!Steppin' Out believe that the 'Blues' is supposed to make you feel better, so having some fun is a big part of their performance and Cath delivers the songs with more than just a touch of Sass and Sauciness!!Having just released their debut EP CD 'Toolbox Blues' at the beginning of 2007 and getting plenty of airplay.......they're already thinking about getting some original stuff out there.....soon! In the meantime........dance like nobody's watching and party like there's no tomorrow!!!!

Rhythm's Mag April 2007 Review of Toolbox Blues :

Influences: Well I like to sing what I like to listen to! But my main influences as the vocalist in the band (which means I get to choose the songs!!!) are some of the great current US Female Contemporary Blues performers. Definately Debbie Davies; Almost certainly Deborah Coleman; Absolutely Her Majesty the Queen of Beale St, Barbara Blue; Without a doubt the Very Fine Janiva Magness; with a smattering of Coco Montoya;Mixed in with a bit of the Fabulous Thunderbirds; Stirred up with a little Robben Ford: A Touch of Johnny Lang;A tip of the hat to John Mayall ; A dash of SRV and a definate nod to the deliciously wonderful Memphis Minnie, Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday!
Sounds Like: Steppin' Out having a ball!!!
