About Me

"Fifty Pence Piece of Mind" is the debut disc by Waiflike, lead by Rich Miller, a charismatic Chicago singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who has been listening to The Beatles since he was in kindergarten. After discovering the first Alice in Chains album, Rich began singing and playing rhythm guitar in the grunge band God's Green Earth when he was 18 in early 1992. By that fall, Rich started attending classes at Loyola University and quickly realized that he felt suffocated by the academic environment so he dropped out and focused as much of his time & energy as he possibly could on writing songs, recording them and performing with his band God's Green Earth in Chicago. Rich grew up in Morton Grove (a somewhat bland but very safe suburb of Chicago) but his life was rather unpredictable at times so being in a rock band became a great way to express his frustration. 5 years after joining God's Green Earth, Rich began to experience creative differences with his band mates so he left in 1997 to pursue a solo career. Rich released “Elysium” under the alias Spill in 1999 and “Waiting for the Tide” in 2002 under his Christian name, Richard Neal Miller. Over the years, Rich has been inspired by the melancholy melodies of Pink Floyd, the catchy choruses of The Beatles, the nasty noisiness of Nine Inch Nails and the angst of Alice in Chains. Rich writes moody music that is clever, compelling and creative and lyrics that are both interesting and intense. “Fifty Pence Piece of Mind” can be purchased for the bargain basement price of ONLY $5 (before shipping). In December of 2007, after a decade of searching, Rich met Jeff Harrison (bassist) and they found Lucas Frantom (drummer) in late May (2008). Waiflike is now a power trio and will be performing in Chicago soon.

Sounds Like: 1. mud-spattered yet melodic music about the miserable, the mainstream and the mutinous. 2. psychedelic popcorn being crushed under the feet of alcoholic, intellectual fools and stoned slaves trying to make a quick buck in an electronic arena while a grunge band is croaking. 3. ethereal, fragile, frail, delicate, airy, insubstantial, light 4. An abandoned, apparently homeless young animal. 5. Something found and unclaimed, as an object cast up by the sea, similar to a ragamuffin or street urchin. 5. read the reviews on CD BABY, listen to the tunes and decide for yourself.
