About Me

"No matter what [style] he's playing, he's playing what feels right and sounds good."
"He always puts his heart and soul into everything he plays; when you hear him play, you'll see what I'm talking about."
"Music is in his soul. It's his religion."

BIOGRAPHY
Chad Alger has been playing drums since the age of 3. Now, 20, he has the experience of many musicians twice his age. Chad has a raw and earnest style of playing that is due to his musical upbringing. He is almost completely self-taught, but that has neither stifled his creativity nor kept him from performing and listening to a wide variety of musical styles. “Teaching yourself can be a more pure way to learn an instrument because you are allowed to reinvent your instrument and truly discover your own voice with less interference.”
Chad has performed successfully with 7 bands including: The Trade, Lipstick Vogue, Black Cat Jazz Trio, What is Jazz, The Apartments, Monica da Silva Quartet, and also with the amazing 13 year old (guitarist and pianist) Conrad Oberg. Touring with Conrad has allowed Chad to take his talents to a national level. Chad has recently performed with Conrad Oberg at The Sarasota Blues Festival, Jacksonville’s Springing the Blues Festival, and Mississippi Juke joint Festival at Morgan Freeman's Blues Club, (Ground Zero) with Morgan himself in attendance! In addition to all this Chad is also a regular on the jam scene, making his name well known at local Jazz, Blues, and Rock jams. Over the years Chad has played in the styles of: Traditional Jazz, Blues, Rock, Funk, Latin, Reggae, and is constantly adding to that list.
Chad is currently working on producing his own solo album, and performing with his new project with Monica da Silva. With this site Chad hopes to share his own creative blend of music with anyone who shares his passion.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.freewebs.com/chadalger
Band Members:
I write most of my own songs for this site. But, I have been involved in many groups over the years. Some of those include:
The Trade
Lipstick Vogue
Black Cat Jazz Trio
Conrad Oberg
I am currently working with my own group "What is Jazz", and with Monica da Silva.

Influences: One thing I can say about my music, is that I take it very seriously, because when I hear an album like "A Love Supreme" by Coltrane, I know that there is so much more to music than just showing off your chops. When I listen to that album I get a tear in my eye, even to this day. And it's that passion, intensity, and depth that I love about cats like Coltrane. He would put every ounce of himself into his horn every time he played. Miles even said that there could have been a naked woman standing right in front of him on the bandstand, and he wouldn't have noticed her. He was that focused.

something that bothers me

I was listening to a song today and started thinking about the role rhythm is (supposed) to play in a musical context. Rhythm is the root, the base, the glue that ties everything together. Without pro...
