About Me

Hi, we're Greta! You're probably not familiar with us, but in the early nineties we released two major label albums, toured with likes of Candlebox, Rage Against the Machine, White Zombie and Motorhead, had our singles featured on such shows as The Real World: "San Francisco" and Beavis and Butthead, and were highly touted as one of the most promising bands to emerge from the early nineties "grunge" scene. Now you're probably wondering, "Why haven't I ever heard of these guys?" Well... we've been asking ourselves that same question for ten years now. And while we don't quite have an answer, we can share a little of our story with you. Greta was formed by Paul Plagens, Josh Gordon, Kyle Baer and Brad Wilk in Los Angeles around 1992. Brad Wilk soon left the band to join Rage Against the Machine and later Audioslave, and was replaced by Scott Carneghi. We quickly went on to become a big-fish in L.A. selling out clubs and starting a huge bidding war for a number of reputable major labels. After signing to Mercury Records we recorded an album and began touring all over the country opening for some well known national acts. Soon everything started to slowly go downhill. Our first record was weak and we didn't get any airplay. While we made some hardcore fans, we didn't sell very many records. Some records go Platinum, some Gold. Ours went Balsa. We had signed a two album deal so Mercury was forced to allow us to record another record. The album, This Is Greta, was fantastic. The band loved it and so did the label. We made an awesome video for it and were making plans for our next tour. That's when things started to quickly go downhill. The President of Mercury was fired. So was our A & R man. The video was never sent to MTV, the record only made it to a few stores and we were quietly dropped from the label. Shortly after, we broke up. Our dream was over, and we became Greta, the little band that never was.

Influences: These are the three official Greta music video's for your viewing pleasure. "Fathom" and "Love is Dead" are from the No Biting album, and were actually played on MTV. "About you", though a great song and video, never really made it to airplay because of problems with the record label. Thanks to those who made watching these videos possible again. Enjoy!
