About Me

Emily Baker's live shows deliver passionate storytelling with flashes of eccentricity between songs.
Effortlessly melodic and memorable, her songs never fail to capture diverse audiences. She is driven by a deep seated passion for classic songwriting.
Originally from a small town in Dorset, she hasn’t taken the most obvious route to where she sits today. After taking jobs selling ice creams to pensioners on Bournemouth beach and answering the phone for a credit card company, she knew she would never quite fit the 9 to 5.
It was only the insistence of her peers and co-writers that encouraged Emily to make the giant leap from 3rd party songwriter and producer to explore her own voice and express her own experiences.
Attending the infamous Chris Difford annual songwriting retreat two years running, Emily made some wonderful companions along the way; penning tunes with many including Adam Levy from Norah Jones' Handsome Band and Wales' adopted 'pint sized poetess' - Amy Wadge.Back in Brighton two songs co-written by Emily feature on Sony/ATV artist Alice Shaw's debut album and regular writing sessions with Peermusic's Dee Adam has proved rather fruitful. Most recently Emily has struck up a writing and performing partnership with Dorie Jackson, who not only is a recording artist in her own right but provides inspired backing vocals for the likes of William Topley, Chris Difford and Francis Dunnery;The response, so far has been overwhelming.Her songwriting likened to Josh Rouse and Ryan Adams; her voice has been likened to the richness of KD Lang, as raspy as Stevie Nicks and as conversational as Kirsty Maccoll. Needless to say Emily continues to draw influences from all these artists and says;
Its really all about The Beatles, Carole King and James Taylor with a twist of the bizarre in the production. The perfectionist vision of Jon Brion (who has collaborated with Elliott Smith, Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainwright, David Byrne, the Eels and Sean Lennon) remains a huge inspiration.
