EarthFair 2007
Earth Day New York celebrated the 37th Anniversary of Earth Day at noon on Saturday, April 14 with a display of Giant Earth Images and messages in Grand Central Terminal and a two day EarthFair inside Vanderbilt Hall. The following Friday, the 20th and Saturday, the 21st EarthFair was outside Grand Central Terminal on Vanderbilt Avenue from 42nd to 45th Streets.
The Giant Earth Images show, projected on the north columns in the Main Concourse, featured insipring environmentally-themed works of art, messages and graphics created by internationally acclaimed artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Romero Britto and others. The program ran ten hours a day (from 10 am to 8 pm) everyday through April 22. To view the show, visit www.earthdayny.org
EarthFair Indoors, Saturday April 14th (12-7pm) and Sunday April 15th (11am-5pm) took place in Vanderbilt Hall, the main entrance to Grand Central Terminal. Visitors were able to learn and get involved; sample free organic food and drinks such as Tierra Farm, SOYJOY and Cell-Nique green drinks; check out earth friendly products from Patagonia, Dr. Hauschka Skin Care, Simple Shoes and more. Children enjoyed hand-on activities such as recycled art projets, murals, costumed characthers, and face painting. Earth Day New York also partnered with Elle Magazine which featured the ELLE Green Room.
EarthFair Outdoors, Friday April 20th (12-7pm) and Saturday, April 21st (11am-5pm) took place on Vanderbilt Avenue from 42nd to 45th Streets. A stage featured musical performances by Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams, the Paul Green School of Rock All Stars with Jon Anderson of Yes, State Radio, Assembly of Dust and Ozomatli. Similiar to the indoor event, a large exhibit area highlighted green companies and environmental groups and included activities for the whole family, interactive displays that educate, engage and provide an opportunity to take positive action for the environment.
Folks sampled organic and natural foods from Annie's Homegrown, Barbara's Bakery, Earthbound Farms, GoOrganic!, LARABAR, Cell-Nique, Stonyfield Farms, Stretch Island Fruit, Guayaki Yerba Mate, interrupcion and more. Sample products from Burt's Bees, Dr. Hauschka Skin Care Inc., and Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps. EarthFair attendees checked out Patagonia, the Toyota Hybrid Synergy tour and the next generation of clean buses from the MTA. EarthFair Outdoors served as the free public music venue for the Green Apple Music and Arts Festival, which is a four day festival including more than 40 concerts at various venues throughout the city, as well as a children's concert. www.greenapplemusicfestival.com
