Scores of women and girls have been raped and held as sex slaves by the government-supported militia, The Janjaweed.
Over 250,00 have been displaced.
Some of Darfur's destroyed villages.
The Janjaweed has blocked many of the routes to humanitarian supply-distribution areas. As a result, basic necessities such as food, water and medicine cannot be accessed.

Refugee camps are now being attacked and humanitarian workers have become major targets. Fearing for their lives, many of these volunteers and organizations are leaving the area at a time when violence against civilians is at an all time high and aid is becoming scarce.
Over 10,000 Darfurians are dying each month from the violence, starvation, and disease.

As you read this, over 3 million people in Darfur, Sudan are crammed together in concentration camps, dying of disease and hunger, while government sponsored troops slaughter civilians, use rape to destroy group unity, and shoot children for sport. 400,000 men, women, and children are already dead. Entire races have been exterminated by the Sudanese government's campaign of ethnic cleansing.

Where is Darfur?
Darfur is a region in western Sudan, an eastern African country half the size of the United States
Why are people being killed?
Sudan is an Islamist Dictatorship controlled by Omar Al-Bashir. Bashir maintains control by ruthlessly crushing rebellion. When Ethnic African groups in Darfur started a war for independence, Bashir responded with a campaign of violence targeting civilians. He has used proxy militia groups to torch whole cities, rape and kill thousands of women and children.

"Using the Power of Networks to Save Lives"
We're a non-profit association of ordinary Americans who are using our unique talents and expertise to compete with powerful business lobbies and media interests in the fight for the lives of the world's poorest and least represented members. We don't have the money to buy million dollar television ads, so we must out-think (instead of out-spend) our larger and better funded opponents. We strive to adapt the most creative and effective means of reaching large numbers of people and convincing them to act to save the live of the millions of men, women, and children who die needlessly each year because of extreme poverty and genocide. The Bush administration has been reluctant to intervene in this ongoing genocide for various reasons including its oil interest in Sudan. The US government also fears that if it assists the UN in charging members of Sudan's government and militias of crimes against humanity in Darfur, world governments will accuse US military personel of crimes against humanity in Iraq.
As girls are captured and held as sex slaves, boys are being conscripted into the militias against their will.
Want to be an active member in helping end genocide?
The End Genocide Now Group is starting a new campaign. We are now asking that everybody focus on emailing Oprah to request that she do a weekly show or weekly update on the situation in Darfur. She does support ending the Darfur holocaust. Hopefully with Oprah's support the word will get out and more people will stand up and fight for the innocent people of Darfur's right to exist on this planet. Just click on Email Oprah and it will take you to the "show request" form. Fill out and then post a copy of your letter in the group if you like.
