lyrics - massive attackIf we are to reach real peace in the world we shall have to begin with children; and if they will grow up in their natural innocence, we won't have to struggle; we won't have to pass fruitless ideal resolutions, but we shall go from love to love and peace to peace, until at last all the corners of the world are covered with that peace and love for which consciously or unconsciously the whole world is hungering. --Gandhi
It is the obligation of thinking people on this planet to weigh the implications of a future without co-existence, to ponder the underlying causes of today's conflicts, to encourage efforts aimed at addressing these complexities and to promote similar thoughtful consideration by others.Humanity arrives together at the beginning of this new millennium in an age where the knowledge of weapons of mass destruction is but a click away. And we live in a world where terrorism is viewed by some as a legitimate response to the perceived economic and cultural assaults they face. Everyone... every women, every man... all people of all faiths and all races must find a way to embrace each other's differences, and search for compromise and a way to co-exist. The alternative is an unthinkable future for our children..With problems so complex and entwined, what can be done? The solution depends on us all, and it starts with you. Peace.org intends to create a resource for people interested in contemplating, participating in, and contributing to sustainable peace and co-existence. Angier--Mahatma Gandhi believed that we must be the change we want to see in the world. This was well demonstrated when he helped India gain its independence. Gandhi was a revolutionary man, but he accomplished India’s emergence as a nation without starting a revolution. In fact, he advocated no violence. One of the most powerful countries in the world yielded to the commitment of one man and the dream of millions.--What change can we effect? What’s the difference we want to make in the world?--Gandhi said, In a gentle way you can shake the world. Here are some things to think about how to do just that.--Know that all significant change throughout history has occurred not because of nations, armies, governments and certainly not committees. They happened as a result of the courage and commitment of individuals. People like Joan of Ark, Albert Einstein, Clara Barton, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison and Rosa Parks. They might not have done it alone, but they were, without question, the change makers.--Believe that you have a unique purpose and potential in the world. It’s not so much something to create as to be discovered. And it’s up to you to discover it. Believe that you can and will make a difference.--Recognize that everything you do, every step you take, every sentence you write, every word you speak—or DON’T speak--counts. Nothing is trivial. The world may be big, but there are no small things. -Everything matters.--To be the change you want to see in the world, you don’t have to be loud. You don’t have to be eloquent. You don’t have to be elected. You don’t even have to be particularly smart or well educated. You do, however, have to be committed.--Take personal responsibility. Never think that "it’s not my job". It’s a cop-out to say, "What can I do, I’m only one person." You don’t need everyone’s cooperation or anyone’s permission to make changes. Remember this little gem, -If it’s to be, it’s up to me.--Don’t get caught up in the how of things. If you’re clear on what you want to change and why you want to change it, the how will come. Many significant things have been left undone because someone let the problem solving interfere with the decision-making.--Don’t wait for things to be right in order to begin.- Change is messy. Things will never be just right. Follow Teddy Roosevelt’s timeless advice, Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.--The genesis for change is awareness.- We cannot change what we don’t acknowledge. Most of the time, we aren’t aware of what’s wrong or what’s not working. We don’t see what could be. By becoming more aware, we begin the process of change.--Take to heart these words from Albert Einstein--arguably one of the smartest change masters who ever lived: All meaningful and lasting change starts first in your imagination and then works its way out. Imagination is more important than knowledge.--In order for things to change, YOU have to change. We can’t change others; we can only change ourselves. However, when WE change, it changes everything. And in doing so, we truly can be the change we want to see in the world.- -The following is inscribed on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop in Westminster Abby (1100 A.D.) . . .When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country. But it, too, seemed immovable. As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.And now, as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize: If I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country, and who knows, I may have even changed the world.--Since this list was inspired by Gandhi’s belief, it seems appropriate to end with another of his quotes: Consciously or unconsciously, every one of us does render some service or other. If we cultivate the habit of doing this service deliberately, our desire for service will steadily grow stronger and we will make not only our own happiness, but that of the world at large.-

-Choose To Be Happy--The only source of happiness – and unhappiness – comes from inside yourself.--Happiness is not something that comes to you. It is something you create now, today. Waiting for something to change in order to be happy is waiting to live your life. It is not what happens to you that counts. It is how you react to what happens to you. It is your attitude. When you adopt a positive attitude, life becomes a rewarding adventure instead of something to get through.-
-Balance is a key element of a happy life.- Dalai Lama teaches, 'A balanced and skillful approach to life, taking care to avoid extremes, becomes a very important factor in conducting one's everyday existence. It is important in all aspects of life. For instance, in planting a sapling of a plant or a tree, at its very early stage you have to be very skillful and gentle. Too much moisture will destroy it, too much sunlight will destroy it. Too little will also destroy it. So what you need is a very balanced environment where the sapling can have a healthy growth. Or, for a person's physical health, too much or too little of any one thing can have destructive effects. For example, too much protein is bad, and too little is bad.--'This gentle and skillful approach, taking care to avoid extremes, applies to healthy mental and emotional growth as well. For instance, if we find ourselves becoming arrogant, being puffed up by self-importance based on one's supposed or actual achievement or qualities, then the antidote is to think more about one's own problems and suffering, contemplating the unsatisfactory aspects of existence. This will assist you in bringing down the level of your heightened state of mind, bringing you more down to earth. An on the contrary, if you find that reflecting on the unsatisfactory nature of existence, suffering and pain, and so forth, makes you feel quite overwhelmed by the whole thing, then, again, there's a danger of going to the other extreme. In that case you might become totally discouraged, helpless and depressed... So under such circumstances, it's important to be able to uplift your mind by reflecting on your achievements, the progress that you have made so far, and your other positive qualities so that you can uplift your mind, and get out of that discouraged or demoralized state of mind. So what is required here is a kind of very balanced and skillful approach.'-

Darfur
by Michael R. BurchDarfur,
I admit that my heart recoilsThe scream climbs inside my ears.Truly I don't know what to do.What good would I be there, another body to count?Instead I find myselfyelling at my lover, thatkind man, and run ashamedthrough our dominion of peace.Shame, for shame.from the thought of your agony
as the hammering machine guns
yammer at your ebony
breast.Darfur,
I am not equal to the task
of your impassioned soliloquy.Darfur, I am pressed
hard to understand
why men molest
innocence
so violently.Darfur, I confess–
I have watched you dying
silently.Darfur, I would bless
you,
if only I knew
how.Darfur,
I stand helpless,
naked before your indignation
now.Darfur,
I have only my pen.Let me wield it like a rapier,
set fire to this paper, till the world in burning shreds
collapses on our headsand we see your fate is ours
if we cannot change the courseof this world intent to maim
each man who’s not the "same"in color and in creed.
And yet the blood you bleed,as red as mine, demands
that we die holding hands.O Darfur,
I’ll bleed too
when the ravenous jackals
are through
with you...

And make a soft bed for your momma
If I were a trigger-happy president
I'd postpone my hunt for OsamaSleep, baby, sleep
Under the Darfur moon
Before the rains come and erase you
Someone should be there soonYour picture's right there for the world to see
Millions of people look away
We shuffle our feet and clear our throats
What can one person do anyway?Sleep, baby, sleep
Under the Darfur moon
Before the rains come and erase you
Someone should be there soon
Someone should be there soonIf you had white skin or some oil fields
Would it have gone this far?
Here's my bewildered belated gift
Money, prayers and a song on this guitarSleep, baby, sleep
Under the Darfur moon
Before the rains come and erase you
Someone should be there soon
Someone should be there soon

TEACHINGS ABOUT PEACE.
-The Golden Rule-
As we seek teachings of peace from the world’s great religions, we notice the similarities in these teachings. We can simply turn to the Golden Rule. Here are a few of the forms of this “rule†of life from several religious traditions, given in alphabetical order.--Baha’i Faith-
Lay not on any soul a load that you would not wish to be laid upon you,
and desire not for anyone the things you would not desire for yourself.
-Baha’u’llah, Gleanings--Buddhism-
Treat not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful.
-The Buddha, Udana-Varga 5.18--Christianity-
In everything, do to others as you would have them do to you;
for this is the law and the prophets.
-Jesus, Matthew 7:12--Confucianism-
One word which sums up the basis of all good conduct: lovingkindness.
Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself.
-Confucius, Analects 15.23--Hinduism-
This is the sum of duty: do not do to others what would cause
pain if done to you.
-Mahabharata 5:1517--Islam-
Not one of you truly believes until you wish for others what
you wish for yourself.
-The Prophet Muhammad, Hadith--Jainism-
One should treat all creatures in the world as one would like
to be treated.
-Mahavira, Sutrakritanga 1.11.33--Judaism-
What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. This is the whole Torah;
all the rest is commentary. Go and learn it.
-Hillel, Talmud, Shabbath 31a--Native American Spirituality-
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
-Chief Seattle--Paganism (Roman)-
The law imprinted on the hearts of all men is to love the
members of society as themselves.-Sikhism-
Treat others as thou wouldst be treated thyself.
-Guru Angad--Sufism-
The basis of Sufism is consideration of the hearts and feelings of others.
If you haven’t the will to gladden someone’s heart, then at least beware
lest you hurt someone’s heart, for on our path, no sin exists but this.â€
-Dr. Javad Nurbakhsh, Master of the Nimatullahi Sufi Order--Taoism-
Regard your neighbor’s gain as your own gain and your neighbor’s
loss as your own loss.
-Lao Tzu, T’ai Shang Kan Ying P’ien, 213-218--Unitarianism-
We affirm and promote respect for the interdependent web of
all existence of which we are a part.
-Unitarian principle--Yoruba (Nigeria)-
One going to take a pointed stick to pinch a baby bird should first try
it on himself to feel how it hurts.-Zoroastrianism-
Do not do unto others whatever is injurious to yourself.
-Shayast-na-Shayast, 13.29-
It is said that soon after his enlightenment the Buddha passed a man on the road who was struck by the Buddha's extraordinary radiance and peaceful presence. The man stopped and asked,"My friend, what are you?
Are you a celestial being
or a god?""No,"said the Buddha."Well, then, are you some kind of magician
or wizard?"Again the Buddha answered,"No.""Are you a man?""No.""Well, my friend, then what are you?"The Buddha replied,"I am awake."Live in Joy,
in Love,Even among those who hate.Live in Joy,
in Health,Even among the afflicted.Live in Joy,
in Peace,Even among the troubled.Look within.
Be still.Free from fear and attachment,
Know the sweet joy of the way.Master your senses,What you taste and smell,What you see,What you hear.In all things
Be a Masterof what you do,and say,and think.BE FREE.Are you quiet?Calm your body.
Calm your mind.By your own effortsWAKEN YOURSELF,
Watch yourself,And live Joyfully.Follow the truth of The Way.Reflect upon it.Make it your own.Live it.It will always sustain you...

www...-When the Buddha was staying in Savatthi, a rich merchant gave alms for three days. A well-endowed widow also gave a large amount, and the news of these two almsgiving spread all over India. The people everywhere started asking, "Does the merit earned by almsgiving depend on large amounts or is it rather in accordance with one's means?"
When the monks heard these questions they asked the Buddha to settle the matter. He said:
"It is not by the amount that giving is productive of reward but rather the generous impulse behind it. Therefore even so little as a handful of rice flour given with a pure heart becomes something that will bring great reward."
This statement was repeated throughout India. People gave alms according to their means to beggars and tramps and wondering Monks. They provided drinking water in their courtyards and put seats beside the gateways.
A wave of generosity spread through the country.-
Happiness is simply being turned on and connected into the larger world around us. It is being in the moment without resistance. It is tapping into the boundless energy of life and letting it guide you. It is not resiting the natural flow of events in our lives. Happiness is very simply a calm consciousness that is available to anyone. Giving also comes from the energy of consciousness. CHOOSE JOY for yourself and for others.
