Hears what they say at the above website...This English duo have such drive and power behind their tunes, we just fell in love with the v. energetic, untitled, 4 track cd they have recently recorded. Their tunes are happy and brash. The Gaurdian described them as "complicated sounding synth popsters", and Steve Lamacq choose them as the RADIO 1 evening session unsigned spotlight. They have, generously, allowed us, to give you 3 of the tracks from that recording. The group consists of Neil, who looks after the guitar, vocals and the bass station, and, Martin, who man`s the synths. The lads met in school in Worthing, where Martin taught Neil how to play the guitar. He then proceeded to kick him out of the lo-fi group because.......he was too poppy! After several years in various band`s, and, as the original solo inception of NEO-MIYAKO, Neil called upon Martin to help him realise his dream of electronic sounds with indie attitude, and this"electro nu-pop noise boy band" was born. They have done a fine job of achieving a particular sound that only they could hear. We feel it is the best mix of 80`s pop, 90`s dance and 00`s whatever, we have ever heard, and that was after a lot of, not so calm, discussion. And they certainally know how to get about, these guys have even caused a stir in the US with their cover of Sonic Youth`s "100%", creating waves in NYC. Lisa Mundy in The Hype also wrote about their unique cross over appeal, "NEO-MIYAKO are equally at home in front of head-nodding indie kids or drug fuelled ravers" and acknowledging their forward thinking spirit, whilst showing her thoughts on the funkyness of the duo, said "..NEO-MIYAKO are creatures of the times and activly recruit US fans through friendster& myspace.com. Get down and get with it..." It is easy to see why so many people are so excited about NEO-MIYAKO at the moment. We found it hard to pick 3 out of the 4 tracks on the cd, in the end it was more about the one we had to leave off, "Reset", but hopefully the lads will let us taste it, in the future. "1UWNT" was our top tune. We couldn`t really seperate the tracks, but, the vocoder at the end of the track is to die for, so it gets the vote. "React Now" makes you want to shout, and "My Nuthin` Babe", strangely, makes you not care. That, incidentally, is their indie infleunces showing through! Future Music described them as "noisy and pretty cool". We agree, and are sure some of you will too. This is just a taste of NEO-MIYAKO`s sound, they are releasing their debut album "Electricity & Damaged Souls", this year, when we get details of where you can pick it up, we will let you know.
