I am here for Friends

About Me

recently, i've had a couple different people tell me i remind them of karen walker (the resident ing'enue a la will & grace). honestly, i couldn't be more excited by the comparison. many aspire to be paris hylton or jessica simpson-- i aspire to be karen walker. i suppose that says something about me... i'm very much in age denial-- i still go out too much and have some growing up to do---but that makes me fun, right?? i had a penpal, from ages 12-14, from the USSR---i have convinced myself i was partly responsible for solidifying the end to the cold war. i have the goth past, the hardcore kid past, and a long-time love of the indie rock--all amalgamated. and speaking of music-- i'm old enough to remember when one had to actually go buy a music magazine to learn about new bands or trade mix tapes with someone across the country...mom and pop punk stores were few, but those committed to their respective "scenes" made the effort to seek them out. anytime you encountered someone with a "different" look, it was rare, but appreciated. kids these days have instant access to everything-- the music, the clothes, the "next big thing".. i'm truly thankful i got the chance to trade a mix tape or two with a stranger before the internet changed it all forever... i'm very much over being "cool" and befriending all the hip people. a cute shag haircut and a hip vintage jacket are not representative of much to me anymore-- they say nothing about your character or personality. so, if you see me out with a hippie or a raver (or some other dumb label we all assign to people), don't be surprised. i've found that diversity in friends makes everything interesting. and if you're over 25 and still obsessed with some scene of your choice, you really need to reevaluate your priorities. i have this very intense interest in historic sites--whenever i'm out, and i see an historical marker of some kind, i have to stop and investigate (i really enjoy old 'main street' areas from the 40's and 50's, still with the original signs and details. but, really, i don't discriminate when it comes to history. i get excited over something dealing with the Revolutionary War just as much as i get excited over a random, abandoned house). in high school, i was voted most likely to set a fashion trend. i like to tell long, melodramatic stories about weird things that happen to me. i hope to someday unite the modern day equivalent of the Proletariat. i also like to brag about getting kicked out of the same bar-- twice. i want to bring back the beauty "standards" of days past--- a size 14 woman in the past was considered absolutely sexy. today, a size 14 woman is made to feel inferior. this really angers me. personally, i think meatier women with curves are the epitome of beauty and i hope that, in my lifetime, this becomes more evident in the media.
