S.P.A.C.E.

Comics for Everyone!

About Me

_Coming from the town that brought you Paul Pope, Jeff Smith and Paul Hornschemier... S.P.A.C.E. is held annually in Columbus, Ohio. Usually falls around mid April to early May. Similar in format to the S.P.X. or M.O.C.C.A., this show only features the creators and (in some cases) the people that publish them. Think of it like an arts fair type vibe except all the exhibitors do their own comics. The show has no dealers, has been tv actors or guys running around in tights. Just comics, the way cons used to be... damn it! The show is a great place to check out what's coming down the pike in the indy comic scene. Buy, sell, trade, network, etc.

+ I try to reign in alot of the info Bob has posted on the S.P.A.CE. page for ease of access. This is an unofficial page for the show. For more info go to back porch

04/30/07: Thanks to everyone for coming out! The next show's in March. Sticking with the two day plan. Attendence was up slightly this year.

++ Several of you have commented on Tom's work. The graphics you see posted here and in the pics are all done by local artist/creator Tom Williams. He's also on myspace and appreciates all the kind words.

My Interests

Building on and celebrating comics. S.P.A.C.E. is the midwest showcase for creator-owned and the comic arts. Presented to you by Back Porch Comics. Centered in Columbus- Your oasis of progressive thought in a sea of red. For more info contact Bob direct @ bpc13atearthlinkdotnet.

I'd like to meet:

People who either produce or enjoy self-published comics, and or creator-owned stuff. Mini-comics, 'art comics', zines, anthologies, webcomics, etc.

Books:

Soooo many. Check out some of the Day Prize nominees/winners- Pop Gun War, Misa, Lackluster World, Owly, Myth of the 8th Opus, Forlorn Funnies, Askari Hodari, etc. Top Shelf Comics has graced the show many a time. Creators who's works are published by Drawn & Quarterly, NBM, Fantagraphics, Oni Press, Alternative Comics, Slave Labor, Top Shelf, etc. which all sport great output.

Heroes:

You.

Self-Publishing part 2: pricing and distro.

_A recent thread over in the indie comics board touched on pricing. The thread starter was daunted by sticker shock when he was at M.O.C.C.A. recently. Seemed as though every mini was '$5'. Pricing is...
