About Me
Shambhala was formed in the Hunter Valley in 2006 by guitarist/vocalist
Dean Holmes, drummer Allan Hofer and bassist Corby. They recorded a 5-track demo in late 2006 and began gigging around local pubs like the Hamilton Station and Valley brewery. Soon after Big Al broke his finger playing fireman and a six month break meant, some new songs and more rehearsals.
In June 2007 they again starting gigging around local pubs like the Hamilton Station, The Grand Junction, The Cambridge, Lucky Country and Rutherford Hotel to good responses from small but enthusiastic crowds...They have spent the first half of 2008 rehearsing, recording, mixing and mastering their debut EP which will be released on July 19 at the Northern Star Hotel. The EP is a 5-track release with a new version of the 2006 demo track "Black Dove". The 2006 version has recently been featured on DownUndaThunda Radio along with "Sapiens", an early epic track which creates visions of campfires and stone tablets...and "Conscience comes" a song about realising we've damaged our earth and the time to save it is now.
The new EP also ventures into epic territory, going beyond the boundaries and pushing through to the other side with new tracks like "Behind the halo" and "Infinite" sampled here on our space in mp.3 form.
Our influences in creating our music come from everything around us, thinking about the big picture and where we're headed as a society, natural beauty, and the aussie landscape.
Musically we have wide variety of tastes that range from 70's rock bands like Sabbath, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP, The Doors, Hendrix, Santana, The Stooges etc.. to 90's bands like Tool, Soundgarden, Kyuss, Dream Theater, The Tea Party, Pearl Jam, Pantera, Machine Head and newer artists like System of a Down, A Perfect Circle, Mastodon, Cog, Karnivool, The Butterfly Effect, Ashes Divide and Serj Tankian.
The name Shambhala comes from a tibetan word referring to a mystical paradise, or a state of mind that can be achieved through meditation. We believe that music can take you on a journey to find your own truth or realisation about the world in the 21st century and that there are other ways to live that are more in harmony with our environment and also truly believe that for our generation music is more important than ever for getting the message across about the forces which control our sacred planet, and our destiny...
