The MurmuR Biography
The leading of the masses into an existential awakening, to come out the other side drained and enlightened. The exploitation, nay exhaustion of all your current opinions and beliefs. Something new, something....'not familiar'
MurmuR is three people from Newcastle, Australia.
Beginning in 2003 MurmuR started out as imitators of grunge and heavy rock. Over the three years that MurmuR have been playing together they have developed their own sound which cannot be pinned down to any one era or genre. With the current wake of garage rock dulling the world and its airwaves, and in the true essence of rock and roll MurmuR do not write what has already been written before, and MurmuR do not play what has already been played before. Instead MurmuR learns from the past and progress music forward to create something - "not familiar."
In January 2006 MurmuR released the CD single not familiar, which featured two tracks: the blistering Something In The Way and whats since been described as the epic, Crosshairs.
MurmuR have played in excess of 200 shows up and down the NSW east coast, reaching as far as Armidale to Wollongong and all stops in between. Notable shows include Sydney’s Metro Theatre, the Annandale Hotel, the Excelsior and back home at the Cambridge Hotel and the Newcastle University’s Bar on the Hill.
2007 sees MurmuR expand their minds and music. Featured on the long running, industry-recognized indie compilation series Grow Your Own, MurmuR recorded their powerful track ‘Selfish’ and released it on the UPLOAD ONE CD. In the first week it was the second most downloaded track off the CD on the iTunes music store, and by the end of the second week it was number one. With a number of live shows in support of the new track ‘Selfish’, and a recent addition to the play-lists of Satellite Music Australia, MurmuR have been expanding the minds of the many people who now clamour to hear, see and experience MurmuR.
Space and time will never be the same.
Together MurmuR believe in looking to the future when it comes to music and so write songs that are unique to this time. MurmuR want to create music that is energising, expansive, individual and above all...
