Kaibigang Pilipino
Founded in 1987, Kaibigang Pilipino, meaning "Friendship of Filipinos," began as a social gathering for Filipinos to feel comfortable on campus. 20 years later, KP has evolved, and continues to evolve, into an organization which serves the Filipino community of the greater San Diego area through 5 core values encompassed by SPACE: social, political, academic, cultural, and experience. This organization is a space for all individuals to find a family at UCSD, to learn about themselves, and to make a difference in the community.
General Body Meetings are every odd week Wednesdays at 6pm at the interim UCSD Cross-Cultural Center, which is located across from the Registrar's office .
Kamalayan
Kamalayan Kollective of UCSD is a political, non-profit organization, that seeks to raise consciousness and awareness on & about Pilipin@/American community issues, not only in San Diego, but also in the greater United States & the Philippines. It is our aim to provide an alternative, comfortable, and intimate space where we foster community and family amongst our brothers and sisters and other peoples. We aim to make connections with other students, staff, faculty, and community members in order to maintain an inclusive environment where we learn, teach, & grow from each other. We strongly believe that awareness begins with self first, and filters to an awareness about community, political, historical, & cultural issues. We seek to bridge Philippine-America with the Philippines.
Kick-its are every even week Tuesday at 630pm at the Cross-Cultural Center.
Bayanihan
Formerly known as PSST (Pilipino Students Saving Tagalog), Bayanihan has set new heights for itself after making Filipino heritage language courses permanently available on our campus. Through various programs, workshops, and events, Bayanihan strives to preserve our culture and connect us back to our homeland through promoting language and education as well as establishing a sense of community in the greater San Diego Area.
KP STAR
KP's Student Teaching and Academic Retention program seeks to address the growing concerns of the retention of Filipino students on our campus. This student-run project aims to provide students with the resources and support to be academically and mentally prepared to battle the struggles of academia. KPSTAR consists of 3 distinct and cohesive compoents: Kuya/Ate/Ading, Peer Counseling, and Tutoring.

My Interests

OUR MAJOR EVENTS

Magkasama
Magkasama is our annual arts and culture festival which aspires to unify the greater San Diego community. The day is loaded with various acts by local Filipino artists with booths lined up and down the lawn of up and coming business vendors and active community organizations. This festival is our chance to showcase our talents and artistically express our culture and identity to our community.

High School Conference
High School Conference is a full-day event made entirely for high school students to educate them about opportunities open to them after high school. With interactive and educational workshops, spirit rallies, a talent show case, and facilitated group discussions, this conference is the perfect opportunity for students to learn from college students, to network with other high school students, to understand their cultural identity, and all the while have fun showing off their pride, energy, and spirit.

Pilipino Cultural Celebration
This two-night event is a theatrical presentation of our interpretation of the Filipino culture. Filled with a full-length script integrated with Filipino folkloric dance and music, contemporary and hip hop dance, and original music, this celebration is a year-long journey of fostering community, learning about our culture and the issues that affect us, and presenting to the world who we are as Filipinos.
