Pomona, CA – On Friday May 16, 2008 Cal Poly Pomona's Barkada will hold it's 18th annual Pilipino American Cultural Night at the Haugh Performance Arts Center located at Citrus College in Glendora, CA!!!
Cal Poly Pomona's Barkada has been an outlet for its members through the four aspects of academics, social, sports, and culture. These four aspects allow the members to express themselves in different mediums. Pilipino American Cultural Night, PACN, is one of Barkada's biggest events representing various issues that affect the Pilipino/Pilipino-American community. Through the art of theater and traditional Pilipino cultural dance, these two mediums weave together a story that will captivate the audience and present issues that are relevant to today's Pilipino/Pilipino-American community.
The narrative of "Brighter Days", written by Barkada's Culture Chair, Vinz Lim, follows the lives of Melvin Delamonte and Vanessa Ligaya, two very different people with one thing in common...following their dreams. Melvin's life is at a standstill and decides to take a new direction until his estranged father returns. Vanessa is the activist type, working for the community despite having a chip on her shoulder. Life has its way with Melvin and Vanessa as their stories intertwine to reveal the different angles of the Pilipino-American youth and where they stand through issues of activism, apathy, and finding an identity in a land where opportunities can make you or break you.

Barkada in Tagalog means "a group of friends." We are a group of friends whose aim is to promote the recognition and understanding of the Pilipino culture at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and our surrounding community.
