Misty Lee Olsen is a singer/songwriter from Barrie, Ontario who is attracting attention from both sides of the border. She has been immersed in country music from a very young age and inherited her talent from her mother Sandra who is a talented singer in her own right. Her unique, delightful clear country voice is her true instrument and features a wonderful vibrato that reminds you of a young Dolly Parton with shades of Stevie Nicks. In addition Misty has a great natural talent as a lyricist and melody writer. After playing at various family functions and local small venues (including making the 2004 regional finals of Nashville Star), in 2006 Misty teamed up with motivated management and began to assemble a team and a plan.
In March 2007, Misty's management was approached by 3 time CCMA producer of the year and ASCAP award winning songwriter Joel Feeney ("Nothin bout love makes sense", LeAnn Rimes) to produce her debut CD. Shortly thereafter a deal was struck and not long after that, Royalty Records of Alberta stepped in with a marketing and distribution deal for the records release later this year. Royalty is the number one Canadian independent country music label with nationwide distribution and featuring other well known Canadian country artists Gord Bamford, Craig Moritz , Amber Nicholson and the newly signed Jason Greeley. Misty has also been approached by some of the cream of the crop in Canada and Nashville for co-writing sessions and will shortly be doing some co-writing with the likes of Gerald O’Brien, Joel Feeney, Trey Bruce and Kevin Savigar of Rod Stewart fame. Most recently, Misty Lee was honored by the Canadian country music association with an invitation to appear at their 2007 CCMA music week new artist showcase in Regina, Saskatchewan last September. This is a critical endorsement by an industry panel of insiders that have acknowledged her talent and made her one to watch. Previous showcase performers include Shania Twain and George Canyon. In addition, her submission song, "Let's get it started" was featured on the annual CCMA new artist showcase CD release which was distributed to all delegates.
Shortly after her successful appearance at the CCMA new artist showcase, Misty received confirmation that she had been approved by FACTOR (The foundation to assist Canadian talent on recordings) for her upcoming project produced by Joel Feeney. Misty would like to thank FACTOR for this chance and is grateful to be acknowledged.
Success was in the air apparently so it was no surprise when it was announced in March of 2008 that Misty Lee had signed a publishing agreement with Nashville publishing house Songscape LLC. Managed by Nashville industry veteran Robyn Taylor-Drake, Misty will be joining the Lucky Hennessy/ASCAP writing team and will look forward to working with top Nashville songwriters and in having an ally like Songscape to market her music.
The good news became fantastic with the announcement in June 2008, that Misty’s song, “Stay away†was being featured in the movie “Every second countsâ€, a feature film starring Stephen Collins from “7th heaven†being aired on the Hallmark Channel in the US beginning in July. The Hallmark Channel which is available in 85 million US households which will increase Misty’s profile exponentially. Canada's next country superstar, Misty Lee Olsen, will begin recording her debut CD this summer for a February release on Canada’s Royalty Records.
