About Me

Raised by wolves in the wilds of Oakville, Ontario, Canada young Joel Feeney received an early education in Country Music from his father Jack, an important figure in the careers of pioneers such as Hank Show, Ella Fitzgerald, Wilf Carter and “Blind Pig-Dog” Fulton, cousin of the late and great blues singer, Jimmy Stoat Fulton,. Later, inspired by such country-rock acts as Poco, Jackson Browne, John David Souther and The Eagles, Joel became a small time bicycle thief and short order cook. After nearly a decade behind bars, a reformed Joel chose the path of the songwriter, those devil–may-care, thrill jockeys who rappel down the side of Mt. Everest and bungee jump Niagara…er, who craft the songs for the voices of a generation. As a session singer writer musician, Joel became in demand for such diverse artists as Rush, Steve Winwood, Jimmy Rankin, Aaron Lines, Gordon Lightfoot, Triumph, Bruce Cockburn, LeAnn Rimes Anne Murray, Air Supply, Pure Prairie League and Starship, amongst many others… Vainly and selfishly craving the limelight to feed his growing ego, ‘JOEL FEENEY AND WESTERN FRONT’ was released in 1991, spawning 6 singles (3 of which entered the Country Top Ten and an other 3 which entered a rather poorly attended bake sale in Montreal). “Diamonds” crossed into the A/C chart and “One Good Reason” was, at the time, the highest ever Country debut single on “The Record’s” chart. 1993’s ‘LIFE IS BUT A DREAM’ fed Joel’s ever burgeoning and somewhat psychotic egomania, with no less than 3 singles going into the top 5 and another in the top 10. The single “What Kind Of Man” reached 1 on the Canadian Country charts. The list of Joel’s JUNO, CCMA, ASCAP, SOCAN, GENIE, RPM and Toronto Music Awards is really, really bloody long and I can’t be bothered to type it right now, but it’s on file in the office next to the elevator permit. For all I know he made it up. No one ever checks this stuff right? But if you really need to know, they’re all listed below. Since signing with Chrysalis Music in 1995 , however, Joel’s career took a turn for the worst. As he wrote songs for his new record, they were pilfered by other artists for their own records. To escape his misery, he went to work with famed Nashville socialite Steve Wariner, and the two of them wrote and recorded new material, which Steve produced in his laundry room. Joel’s 1998 eponymously titled record ‘JOEL FEENEY’ was released on Universal. It’s a beautifully crafted masterpiece, (like the ’72 Buick Skylark Convertible which I’m selling for $4000 o.b.o.), with thought-provoking lyrics and memorable melodies and will hopefully continue to do fabulously well so that everyone in the entire world will know who he is and I’ll never have to write one of these bio’s again. Joel is currently a writer with Red Stripe Plane Music in Nashville / Los Angeles. Artists that have recorded Joel’s songs in the past include Kenny Rogers, Pure Prairie League, Tracy Byrd, Tim Rushlow, Marshall Dyllon, Starship, Steve Wariner, Aaron Lines, Chely Wright, Emerson Drive, Trace Adkins, Jake Matthews, LeAnn Rimes, Andy Child as well as Canadian television star Alexz Johnson, from ‘Instant Star’ fame. LeAnn Rimes’ first single off of her latest CD ‘This Woman’, “Nothin’ Bout Love Makes Sense”, was written by Joel and went all the way to 1 in Canada and peaked at 5 in the US., for which he recently received a 2005 ASCAP award, as well as a 2005 SOCAN award. They tell me this song helped Leann resurrect her country career after careening into the pop world for most of her teens, which sounds strange as she’s only 22 years old. Who has their career resurrected at 22 ? As if there wasn’t enough going on, and obviously craving more of the limelight, Joel produced the latest record for Canada’s country group of the year Doc Walker “Everyone Aboard”. Their 2001 record “Curve”, which Joel also produced, achieved huge success in Canada with two number one singles and numerous JUNO and CCMA awards as well as the number 1 single ‘Rocket Girl’. He won the CCMA ‘Record Producer of the Year’ for both records as well. Joel also produced Gil Grand’s latest “Somebody’s Someone”, which he once again, won the 2006 CCMA ‘Producer of the Year’. Latest projects include Canada’s new vocal sensation ‘After Tuesday’, just unleashed to radio. Awards and stuff: CCMA Record Producer of the Year: 2002, 03 , 06. JUNO Awards, Group Of The Year 1994. RPM Awards, New Artist 1992. GENIE Awards (Feature Film Canada) Original Song ‘Falling Forward’ from the feature ‘Treed Murray’.BDS Spin Award America , 150,000 spins “Nothin ‘Bout Love Makes Sense”. ASCAP & SOCAN Award, 2005 :“Nothin ‘Bout Love Makes Sense”
