Bio...Born in Red Deer, Alberta, Troy Kokol comes by music honestly - his mom and step dad met while in a band and played professional for most of his youth. A young Kokol was exposed to many musical genres, and remembers being influenced by country music at an early age. "I grew up listening to guys like Hank Williams, Hank Snow and probably some other Hanks I can't remember," laughs Kokol.
Kokol's first cut, "Pickup Truck", co-written with Joni Delaurier, is featured on country artist, Shane Yellowbird's freshman release, "Life Is Calling My Name". The song was in the Top 10 for 12 straight weeks, hit number 1 on CMT and on the CanCountry Charts and remained in the charts for over 60 weeks. At the 2007 CCMA's the song was nominated for Single of the Year, Video of the Year and both Kokol and Delaurier were nominated for SOCAN Songwriter of the Year. The song ended up being the number 2 Canadian country single of 2007 on the CanCountry charts, second only to "Moments", recorded by Emerson Drive.
Troy is currently working with Yellowbird on the follow up album and has cuts pending with many other artists. Between writing trips to Nashville, touring and his current projects in Canada, he's keeping a busy schedule and proving to be someone to watch for in the Canadian country music scene.
