JESSIE GALANTE BIO: True soul is more than just the sound of the singer. That’s definitely the case with rock spellbinder Jessie Galante, whose urge to electrify audiences with her expressive powerhouse vocals comes from deep within.“At some point in a song I have to blast out,†says Galante. “It’s very hard for me, physically or mentally, to get through a whole song without a big burst of energy. It builds up inside, and I have to get it out of me. That’s why I’m drawn to songs with force, soul and passion: get me together with all those elements, and it’s a happy situation.â€A prolific recording artist with a fast-growing following in both the U.S. and Europe, 2007 is looking like the most exciting year yet for the singer hailed by her native Buffalo as its “First Lady of Rockâ€. Now NYC-based, Galante is in the thick of recording her third solo album, backed up this time around by a high-profile team that truly understands the potential of her riveting artistry, including co-writer Lee Horrocks (formerly with Ric Wake Entertainment - Taylor Dayne, Jennifer Lopez) and mixer Mick Guzauski (Michael Jackson, Earth Wind & Fire, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Babyface, Eric Clapton), all overseen by double-platinum producer Larry Swist. All the better to hear Jessie Galante’s distinctive gift – a charged vocal approach that can shift from subtly sensual emotion to hair-raising aggression at a moment’s notice. “I haven’t felt fulfilled in the past, but I do now,†she explains. “I’m working with people who get me as an artist and a singer. I have a voice, and my challenge to my collaborators was, ‘How do we really use this voice?’â€If the new song “Mamma (I Get a Little Crazy)†for the upcoming album is any indication, the answer is: just like TNT. The spare guitar bed of the intro gives Galante just enough cushion to romance the ear with a quietly sensual caress, right before that aforementioned vocal explosion takes place: a consortium of pure strength, gorgeous fragility and total control bent on breaking barriers. Another new track, the blues-soaked “Beautiful Manâ€, extends her trademark with inspirational vocal gymnastics that show why Galante is in a class by herself. While it’s nice to have the kind of explosiveness that Galante possesses in her toolbox, the globe-trotting singer has learned that being multi-dimensional is what keeps albums and live shows interesting. “I totally understand my instrument and I can work it any way that I want to,†she explains. “Some critics say that if your record has a lot of different feels, then they don’t know where you’re coming from. But every day I go through different moods, so why should I record an album with just one mood? Whatever the emotion is that I want to express, I know I’ll be in control and the right sound is going to come out.â€More often than not, audiences can expect that sound to serve as an essential form of anger management. “In the household I grew up in, even the love was screaming mad love!†Galante says. “I do have a lot of anger. We all have anger for different reasons: because of the situations you’re in, because you’ve made mistakes in your life and want to fix them, or because you’re disappointed at mankind and it feels out of your control. It’s very hard for me to talk about a problem without raising my voice.â€Both Jessie Galante and her global following should feel very fortunate that she’s found the ideal emotional outlet for dealing with it all. “The name of my publishing company is ‘Mamma, I Just Wanna Sing’ and that says it all,†she concludes. “I love to sing and I love to travel, but to be able to move to the next level so I can combine the two is a thrill. It’s such a huge world: You just can’t get enough.†– David Weiss
