Our Agenda
Preserving Texas
Barton Springs, east Texas forests, our state park system—these treasures are a big part of what makes Texas special. Our natural areas provide us with clean, plentiful water, beautiful places to take our families on a swim or nature hike, and give us a glimpse into Texas’ disappearing wilderness.
Unfortunately, out of control development is threatening these special places. Every hour, 20 acres of our forests, working farms, and natural areas are destroyed to make room for new strip malls, subdivisions, and other developments.
It’s time for our elected officials to stand up to the developers and provide the planning and resources we need to preserve Texas for future generations.

Promise of Clean Energy
The way we produce and use energy in Texas has severe impacts on our environment and our public health. From the air and water pollution caused by our coal-fired power plants, to the toxic nuclear waste created by the state's nuclear power plants, to the wasted energy that results from us not taking advantage of energy efficient technologies, it is obvious that we could be doing better.
Environment Texas is working to create a new energy future for Texas, in which we are more reliant on clean, renewable energy sources like wind and solar, and in which we take advantage of energy efficient technologies to reduce our overall energy demand.

Clean Air
Nearly two-thirds of Texans live in places where the air is unsafe to breathe. Pollution from power and industrial plants, cars and trucks, and even ships docking in Texas ports are making many Texans sick, scarring our scenic vistas, and costing our economy billions of dollars in health care and other costs.
Texas has made some progress in recent years, including funding the Texas Emissions Reduction Program and making some initial reductions in pollutants from power plants, but more needs to be done. To bring blue skies back to Texas, Environment Texas advocates using readily available technology to reduce emissions from cars, factories and power plants and investing in alternatives like mass transit and wind and solar power.

Save The Christmas Mountains!
The Christmas Mountains, a ruggedly beautiful wilderness area adjacent to Big Bend National Park, were donated to the state of Texas in 1991 “for use as and inclusion in a nature park, wildlife refuge, recreational area or similarly designated use area." However, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson is working to sell the land to private interests.
How You Can Help
Please sign our petition Here to Gov. Perry and Attorney General Abbott asking them to direct their appointees to stop the sale of the Christmas Mountains.
