Animal Connection of Texas is a grassroots group dedicated to the end of animal suffering. We are based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and are in our 22nd year. Some of our campaigns include demos at several circuses each year Circuses.com , Fur Free Friday FurIsDead.com , Staples/HLS protests , rodeo protests , Petland demos and tabling at numerous local events.
Founded in 1986, ACT has accomplished the following:
June 2008: Fought and won to pass the Mandatory Spay/Neuter.
June 2008: Fought to make it illegal to tether dogs in Dallas.
--Fought and won a 4-year battle to end pound seizure in Dallas (the practice of selling dogs and cats from city shelters to research labs).
--Established SNYP (discount spay/neuter coupon program, used throughout the metroplex). Call 214-349-SNYP for coupons and information.
--Helped bring to Dallas:
-Pet-Fixx (mobile spay/neuter clinic, free to low-income residents)
-Luv-A-Pet (now Spay/Neuter Assistance Program)
--Placed spay/neuter ads on DART buses
--Placed anti-fur billboards and TV commercials
--Placed anti-rodeo ads on DART buses
--ACT members collected signatures and spoke at city council meetings to help pass a proposition to fund a new animal shelter for the city of Dallas. The proposition passed in the 1996 bond election.
--Hosted a 9-month long weekly radio show that featured topics on animal welfare, animal rights, the environment, and some social justice issues.
--Organizes and leads many events and protests.
--Public education on spay/neuter. ACT worked with SNAP to widely distribute Spanish-language spay/neuter information as well as continuing to promote SNYP's discount coupons.
