About Me

There is something very real about Michael’s songs, real in that they capture a genuine emotion arising from the struggles of love and love lost, between faith and doubt. They are from the heart with something new to discover with each listen. Michael is originally from Hervey Bay in Queensland, but grew up mostly in Papua New Guinea from 1982, where his Father was a pilot. The family moved back to Australia after his father was killed in an aircraft accident in 1990. Songs like ‘There is a Time’ and ‘Autumn Kiss’ contain elements of reflection from this time. Michael left Hervey Bay and a fitter-welding apprenticeship and moved to Sydney in 1995 to study vocals, where he completed a Diploma in Performing Arts through ACE (Australian College of Entertainment). During this time Michael began writing songs and in 1998 produced his first EP, “Beginning the Dream”. In 2002 Michael went as a part of a group to Kitgum, Uganda to visit a child refugee centre run by Irene Gleeson and Childcare International. Moved by the hope and the joy the children had, despite the war and poverty that surrounded them each day, Michael wrote and recorded "Heartbeat of Africa". Proceeds from this song are going towards supporting the work in this war torn area of Uganda. In 2004 Michael completed an Advanced Diploma in Songwriting at SCA (School of Creative Arts) where he now teaches Songwriting and Vocal Production. During this time Michael produced his first album project "After the Rain", an album he co-wrote and recorded with Elizabeth Connolly. This album looks at holding on through the ‘tough times’. The top songs of this album are, "There Was a Time", "Rose in a Garden", “Autumn Kiss", "After the Rain", and “Can't Find It". Michael is currently working on a new recording project with, “The Usual Suspects”. The members of “The Usual Suspects” all found their common ground and friendship as graduates of SCA. They are all outstanding musicians in their own right, bringing a fresh dynamic to their blend of rock/folk, twists of country, and songs from the heart. All the songs mentioned are available for purchase in itunes. You can visit Michaels profile at www.myspace.com/michaelpeaker or http://ilike.com/artist/Michael+Robert+Peaker
