If you'd like to listen to Mike's poetry and Abe's music as Split Pea/ce go to www.myspace.com/splitpeace.Mike is a writer, poet, journalist, photographer, student of politics and life; excutive editor of The Cleveland Reader, a journal of literature, print graphics, photography and the arts. In January 2008, Mike and Abe Olvido, a painter and musician, started Split Pea/ce in Cleveland and are artists of spoken word and music. Mike writes the songs and does the vocal while Abe plays acoustic and electric guitar, drum and typewriter.Split Pea/ce is back recording more songs. Army veteran, II Field Force, Vietnam where he served as a combat correspondent. In the summer and fall of 2007 Split Pea/ce was featured at Macs Backs book store on Coventry in Cleveland Heights, Visible Voice Books in Tremont and the Global Fest at Zen Sculptural Gardens in the Waterloo Arts District and sometimes plays open mics at The Barking Spider on the campus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Mike read at Cornelia Street Cafe in New York City in November 2007 and says he'll do it again sometime. The Cleveland Reader was reborn in the summer of 2007, after publishing from 1988-98. The journal will publish an annual printed edition each summer.
