About Me

Click here for Myspace LayoutsDON GATO... is an experimental group from Lima, Perú whose music defies classification. Founded in 2003*, led by guitarist Antonio Esteban and produced by María Burela, Don Gato combines Fusion, Psychedelic and Progressive elements. The group made its professional debut under the patronage of the Spanish Embassy in Perú, through it's Cultural Center (CCE), an organization that promotes the arts. Although its material is original, Don Gato ocassionally includes some compositions by musicians such as McCoy Tyner, Paul Desmond, John Coltrane and John McLaughlin. The group's music is not Jazz, in its conventional definition, but it shares with that genre the emphasis on improvised solos which give the musicians a chance to create in real time, take risks, and allow the audience to participate more deeply. Its live performances include some at Lima's most prestigious club, The Jazz Zone, where it played for SRO audiences receiving kudos from the press. As a quartet, Don Gato presented its first CD: "¡ZAS!", recorded live at Mandala Studio and received by the media with excellent reviews, including the Peruvian Magazine "Somos" and Germany's "Rocktimes" . The group's music has been broadcasted by radio and T.V. in Perú, Canada, England, Argentina, Bosnia & Herzegovina and the U.S. The original cover art is by notable Peruvian painter Emilio Hernández.DON GATO is always evolving, stay tuned four our next CD and new productions.
