THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN FOR ME IN 1966. RUNNING THE SUPREMES FAN CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN.
THE DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES FAN CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN CAME INTO BEING WITH THE DISSOLUTION EARLY IN 1966 OF DAVE GODIN'S 'TAMLA MOTOWN APPRECIATION SOCIETY'. THE SUPERLATIVE FAN ORGANIZATION WHICH UP UNTIL THAT TIME HAD CATERED TO BRITISH FANS OF ALL TAMLA MOTOWN PERFORMERS.HAVING BEEN A MEMBER MYSELF, THE CLUB GAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR MEMBERS TO APPLY FOR THE POSITION OF SECRETARY TO EACH INDIVIDUAL ACT. OF COURSE, WITH MY ADMIRATION FOR THE SUPREMES, I APPLIED, AND THE REST IS HISTORY. MY LIFE WITH THE SUPREMES -RUNNING THE FAN CLUB -The Diana Ross Fan Club Of Great Britain came into being with the dissolution early in 1966 of Dave Godin’s ‘TAMLA MOTOWN APPRECIATION SOCIETY’, the superlative fan organization which up until that time had catered to British fans of all Tamla Motown acts. Having been a member myself, the club gave members the opportunity to apply for the position of Secretary to each individual Motown act. Of course, with my admiration for The Supremes, I applied and the rest is history.I became the official President and Secretary in May ’66.In return for a years’ subscription to the fan club, which in those days was only six shillings, each member would receive a potted biography outlining The Supremes career, handout photographs, membership card and the first of twelve newsletters. During my four year run as President, I enrolled almost 1000 members throughout Europe. Being a member also gave them opportunities of meeting the Ladies whenever they were visiting.With the news of Diana Ross & The Supremes’s engagement at London’s “Talk Of The Town†in 1968, I arranged for members to meet the Ladies at London Airport upon their arrival and a fan club reception at London’s EMI House. DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES LIVE! AT THE TALK OF THE TOWN - 1968 -Of course, I was there for the opening night and as secretary of the fan club, had been given prime seats for me and my family. I was also given a backstage pass to meet the Ladies before the show. Seeing them walking down the stairwell towards the stage will stay in my mind forever. They looked just like 'angels', dressed in heavy beaded gowns, immaculate wigs, a riot of colour make up and what seemed like ten pairs of eyelashes. These were The Supremes, without a doubt!

I WAS VERY PRIVILEGED TO MEET UP WITH MARCIA AND SMOKEY 'B' DURING MY LAST VISIT TO LOS ANGELES BACK IN OCTOBER AND WAS DELIGHTED TO ACCEPT THEIR OFFER TO GO ALONG TO THE 'ENTOURAGE STUDIOS' TO SEE SCHERRIE PAYNE RECORDING HER VOCALS FOR A FORTHCOMING SOLO PROJECT THEY WERE PRODUCING. I CAN'T SAY TOO MUCH ABOUT IT YET BUT IT IS AN AMAZING SONG AND QUITE A CHANGE OF GENRE FOR SCHERRIE. SO WATCH THIS SPACE GUYS. WE ARE ALL VERY EXCITED ABOUT IT!
