Mr. BoJangles
Carlton "C.J." Jenkins
C.J. a native of Youngstown, Ohio is an accomplished singer, pianist, songwriter, recording artist, arranger, producer, writer, artist, actor, counselor, motivational speaker, ordained minister, and the list goes on. Being raised in the church, he naturally joined the choir and sang his first solo, " God Can Do Anything But Fail ", at the age of FOUR , which to this day is STILL his motto. He was soon sought after to perform in many events, and he became the pianist for the youth in his church, as well as the adults. In fact, he played for ALL the age groups, from the babies to the SENIOR choir! He went on to be a musical leader in and out of church. C.J. played a role in Peter Pan at the Youngstown Playhouse at a young age and has gone on to do many productions in Youngstown. Some of his favorite roles include The Lion in "The Wiz" , Hodman Brian in " Miss Ever's Boys ", Jim, the Slave in " Big River ", The Cheshire Cat in a premiere production of " Alice in Wonder land ", (in which the character was written, modeled after his own witty character!), and Pujab in " Annie ", ( AGAIN, of which he wound up playing 'himself' in character that was 'not' written IN the script! ).
His musical influence aside from the church was Motown, and C.J. has since been involved with a few Motown artists and has worked with, his "God Mother", Mary Wilson of the The Supremes. He appeared with her in Las Vegas and in other locations, including the Renaissance Theatre. He has sung with her numerous times at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, The Vocal Group Hall of Fame 2003 video concert in Atlantic City and other places. The Las Vegas DVD can be purchased at http://www.marywilson.com . C.J. has been a finalist in the National Karaoke Contest representing Ohio and the Great Lakes region in Vail, Colorado. He has also recorded many genres of music from gospel to country to standards. Presently C.J. is still consulting as the Worship leader in the East Ohio United Methodist Church Conference. He also works in the community establishing the Mansfield chapter of Southside Productions at "All God's Children", wherein troubled and unloved youth are afforded life-changing experience in theatrical participation, tutoring, "Street Law" classes, all in the nurturing environment of the "Church In the Hood"!...And the beat goes on!Video: "I Believe I Can Fly"
