Would you leave a high paying career to make $8.00 an hour chasing a dream? Meet someone who did just that.
Born and raised in Santa Monica, California, Christopher Michael grew up listening to Los Angeles radio. He's heard it all from Dr. Demento to Mark & Brian, from Rick Dees to Kevin & Bean, Stern, The Greaseman, Limbaugh, Parr, Sharp, and yet you won't hear any of them in his show. "I once heard Vin Scully say in an interview that the best piece of advice he'd ever been given was to not be like any other Broadcaster," Chris says. "He said, 'The one thing you can bring to a show that no one else can is you'."
Son of a pioneer computer nerd (and bit of a computer nerd himself), Chris has leveraged his natural aptitudes and work experience both in and out of Radio and Television Broadcasting, Sales/Marketing, and education in Theatre Arts and Broadcasting to be able to perform any task: Air Talent, Production, Promotions, Business Office, even move furniture and install carpet. Yes, really. His experience with Active Rock, Alternative, Hot A/C, Oldies, Smooth Jazz, Classic Rock, and News radio formats as well as Television hosting has awarded Chris the ability to adjust to multiple formats quickly and provide radio stations the sound they are looking for.
In 2004, Chris launched his own production company. He quickly realized he could combine his corporate work experience in Sales/Marketing with his knowledge of and experience in Radio Broadcasting and Music to also provide artists with management and booking agent services. Chris partnered with Soundscape 1 in 2005 and handed the production duties to them, freeing him to provide artists with unparalleled management, promotion, and career development services.
Chris says he's been fortunate; that when he has stumbled he was lucky enough to fall upward. More accurately, Chris has worked extremely hard to get where he is. He is tenacious , makes no excuses, and doesn't quit until he gets what is needed. "My diverse work history has taught me a couple of things," Chris says. "One, 'no' is where the conversation begins. And two, it's always easier to get forgiveness than permission."
There are those with more experience, few with more talent, and none with more passion. Chris has proven himself to be talented, teachable, and to check his ego at the door. And when he "puts the dagger between the teeth," he doesn't quit and he doesn't fail. The companies and artists that Chris works with will become his greatest fans. Chris does admit one rather large mistake: He spilled coffee on the board once. But he promises he'll never do that again.
Chris also likes to give back to the community, donating his time as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and for the U.S. Special Olympics.
