About Me

DJ Captain Bob is the dj and occassional charity event promoter who cares - about the music and the people. His last big public event was his annual Children in Need fundraiser on Nov 16th 2007 at Hove Town Hall. That featured his kids disco, facepainting by Nam Nams and had Floors And Walls headlining after sets from !Auto-Pilot!, The Razzlers, The Rylics, Republic of Heaven and Ben Poole Band with special guest Dani Wilde. The event raised nearly £1000 all safely banked with CIN. Bookings for various gigs - weddings, 21sts, clubs etc - keep on coming for 08 and 09. This year's CIN event at HTH will be on Nov 14th - in the Great Hall this time, and it looks like 12 STONE TODDLER will headline. TURNING GREEN have yet to confirm but THE ASTONISHING are definitely upfrit. The captain is also part of the new Soul Deep DJ Collective, materminded by ex Radio Reverb northern soul princess DJ Kath. Together with Little Rik and maybe guest djs we will play northern soul, stax, motown, funk, boogalo and original rhythm and blues and soul to get the in crowd moving. See dates below. IF YOU WANT TO HIRE CAPTAIN BOB current playlists include: Psyche Me Out - a stunning blend of leftfield and psychedelic mayhem from the likes of Ozric Tentacles, Spritualised, Pretty Things, the Orb, Pink Floyd, Bevis Frond etc. I Love Music - love songs, ranging from cheese to pop and rock, from soul to rnb and hip hop, from sad to feel good. Dead Good -eavesdrop on the greatest disco in heaven with the likes of Hendrix, Lennon, Joplin, Elvis, Joy Division, Nirvana, The Who, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Tim Buckley, Jeff Buckley, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Marc Bolan/T.Rex, Joey Ramone/Ramones, Dusty Springfield, Bob Marley, George Harrison, Joe Strummer/Clash, Miles Davis etc etc. Fromage Homage - a testament to the durability of cheesey stuff incl. disco, glam & easy. Its kool to be chav. Mod A Go Go - relive the 60s with a mod spin. Small Faces, the Who, Kinks, Motown etc. Reggae Got Soul - tasty blend of Ska, Motown, Trojan, Stax, Atlantic etc. Get the Funk Out - lashings of soul, funk and disco. The Instrumental Goldmine - broad range of instrumentals. The Covers Show - every track is a cover version of someone else's track. Could include versions of or by the Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Dylan, Led Zep, Elvis, Flaming Lips, Kylie, Elton John, Jeff Beck, Manics, Bowie etc. Retromobo - classics from the back catalogue of black music incl. rnb, rnr, blues, jazz, gospel, soul & hip hop. Girls Girls Girls - every track features female vocals. Covers a broad spectrum of music. Its In The Mix - featuring different mixes or versions of well known trax, sometimes by the original artists and sometimes [as featured in the Covers Show] by others. Summer Breeze - evocative blend of sunkissed reggae, ska, soca and other exotic dance stuff + Beach Boys and sunny summer sounds. St Patrick's Night- best of Irish music from the likes of U2, Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, Sinead O'Connor, Christy Moore, Brian Kennedy and ceilidh music. Rock - air guitar, head banging, no nonsense stuff from the 60s to now. Quite loud! 70s - diverse sounds of the seventies. Punk's Not Dead - original punk and new wave. From the Electric Prunes thru to the Ramones & Buzzcocks thru to the Hives, Datsuns etc. Unashamedly loud from start to finish. Campaign, Protest & Rebel Songs - great message songs from well known Troubadours like Dylan, Manics, Springsteen, U2, Christy Moore, Tom Paxton, Joan Baez, Billy Bragg, Levellers, Ewan McColl and Peggy Seeger. Dance/Club Anthems - house, rave, trance, techno, rare groove, 70s disco classics etc. The Kids Are Allright - safe set based around hits from last 6 years; ideal for kids' parties. The Noughties - a more adventurous set of varied music of this decade. Sex & Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll - exactly wot it says. Loadsa trax from the last century and this on these three oft sung about topics eg Ian Dury, Chuck Berry, AC/DC, Barry White, Dr Hook, Beatles, U2, Thin Lizzy, Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Ramones, Led Zep, Marvin Gaye, Primal Scream, Kylie, Madonna, Scissor Sisters etc. Chill - cool, ambient, melancholy, varied laid back fusion of mellow moods. Nice. Retro/School Daze - mainly pop chart hits from whatever era suits the dancefloor. Fun. 50s/60s & Rock 'n'Roll - sometimes vinyl only, but always great. Blues/Jazz/ Roots - cross section of blues, jazz, world, country and folk from the 20s to now. All That Jazz - all sorts of jazz incl. vocals, trad, big band, bebop, piano and current. How Blue Can You Get - a veritable blues fest from Robert Johnson to Eric Clapton and stops in between. He's Got The Whole World In His Hands - gospel, folk, country and world music, some with a spiritual feel or undercurrent. From The Sublime To The Ridiculous - the type of playlist that would be sponsored by an anarchist anti-disco league or if you want more structure you can have classic trax alternating with more challenging stuff. There are no rules. Who cares about beats per minute or that Frankie Knuckles at his best follows the Dickies, that Marvin Gaye shares airspace with Benny Hill and Sandy Denny duets with barking dogs? 80s/90s - idiosyncratic blend of pop, rock, rave, house etc from 1980 to 1999. Molotov - explosive genre busting mix of Captain Bob's dancefloor faves selected from the above plus leftfield suprises. Satan Was A Lesbian - A heady blend of outrageous, funny, silly and downnright wierd trax from the 50s onwards. May include some spoken word trax and definitely not for the fainthearted or anyone easily offended. Punter's Mix 'n' Match - you tell the Captain before the gig how you like it and he delivers. World's Worst Disco - not for the fainthearted. Features the playlist from hell. As with all playlists can do edited version within a set.
