THE DEATH OF SPIDERBABY REVIEWS!
IN THEIR WORDS (www.myspace.com/intheirwords)
SpiderBaby are a 4-piece Power Pop/Rock band from Brighton. There's not much I can say about the band's image & music that hasn't already been covered by the lovely Denise in her band review, which you can read here.
It's been a few months in the pipeline but finally, "The Death Of SpiderBaby" is here. 8 amazing & diverse tracks, 18 sexy band pictures and a 'lol' worthy video that makes this EP a must-have for every SpiderBaby fan.
Musically, there is something for everyone on this EP, from catchy pop-rock tunes like "Dead Chavs" & "Climbing The Walls" to, what can only be described as 'psychedelic hippy acoustic' with "21st Century Vampire Fashion Show". The EP flows brilliantly from start to finish.
"The Great Audition" prepares you for the musical onslaught you're about to face (although it does sound a lot like the music they play just before the adverts at the Oscars), then the dance-fest ensues with "Dead Chavs", "Climbing The Walls" & "The Restless", followed by a dose of great vocals from Ashleigh on the sleazy pop track "Babydoll", before another rock out takes place to "Crucify". Then, everything mellows out with "21st Century Vampire Fashion Show" and the CD is well rounded off with "Dance Of The Mutant Snake Woman", an instrumental track with a 'Sympathy For The Devil' feel.
Trying to pick a favourite song from this EP is difficult: I've listened to it through 10+ times, with my favourite track changing each time. "Dead Chavs" is a great sing-along track, you can't help but shout "We are the revolution" at the top of your lungs and then there's "Climbing The Walls" (which sounds so much better on the CD than on the Myspace player, btw) & "Crucify", which are 2 great excuses to dance insanely around the room. When looking at the best songs on the EP, "Babydoll" can't be overlooked: sexy vocals with a sexy bassline make a sexy song and probably my overall favourite, for now at least.
"The Death Of SpiderBaby" is anything but the death of SpiderBaby and I recommend it to all: You don't have to own PVC attire to love this band, though it could help.

MORE TO FOLLOW!
ORGAN SINGLE OF THE WEEK SPIDERBABY – Teenage Odyssey / Lovebuzz (Spiderbaby) - They're infectiously catchy in a positively good (rather horny) throwaway glam pop electro rock in blackest PVC and high heels kind of way (and that's just the boys). They'll get your spider senses tingling, they'll get inside your head and have you singing about that lovebuzz on tube trains and bus rides, they're bubblegum superstars to pick you up when you forget to take your meds. They're a boy girl three piece from the darkside of Brighton, they've got two songs for you here (and a rather fine video so make sure you're keeping an eye on Organ TV), they deal out a delicious blend of androgyny and attitude – LoveBuzz is the more instantly infectious of the two with that classic electro drive, those throwaway pop lyrics and those proper glam rock riffs. Think Kiss meets Garbage with a slice or two of Electric Six and a healthy taste of Rachel Stamp and three of those beautiful people that Marilyn was singing about. Proper pop music.
SPIDERS
Spiders receive such a bad press… they are different & looked at as bugs that need to be crushed. They are hated, feared & the mere sight of them no matter how small they are can turn big powerful people to jelly.
But look closer & spiders are beautiful, cunning, intelligent & very individual. As we all know they are not considered an insect but an arachnid unto themselves.
They spin webs that are one of the most beautiful things of nature. These are creatures that are not to be feared but admired. They won’t be though; they’ll forever be doing their own thing & outcast by narrow minded people.
SPIDERBABY & her friends work exactly the way, they fear us because we are different. Their pretentious posturing tries to drive us out but they’ll never succeed! Just how they’ll always be more & more & more spiders for every one they crush…
To all those that believe in SPIDERBABY, you are all individual! Those that believe in us are open minded to something just a little different. You are all beautiful, cunning & intelligent & listening to us doesn’t put you into any kind ‘trend’. You are so unique & we love you!
And we’ll continue creating beautiful, original, exciting music for you just like a spider creates a beautiful web.
And we’ll be the ones to crush them & rewrite the rules…
