About Me

Tell a friend...spread the word!UnSilenced Woman Press is proud to announce the release of, ‘TRUE LOVE FOR THE CULTURE: Real Hip-Hop: from the Heart: of the Poet’ chapbook and CD. This project is the brainchild of executive producer TiGi (pronounced “TEE-chee”) Nii, a local poet, and began out of her love and concern for Black youth. The CD and chapbook offer an alternative to commercialized and mainstream hip-hop. ‘TRUE LOVE FOR THE CULTURE: Real Hip-Hop: from the Heart: of the Poet,’ is not intended for resale; it will be distributed to parents, youth, and youth organizers agencies and groups. The chapbook/CD release celebration will be held in conjunction with AquaMoon’s monthly arts/performance showcase, August 25, 2007, at Mercury Café, 1505 W. Chicago Ave, 8:30pm. This is a FREE event, open to the public. The release will include performances by contributing poets on the project and all attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the CD and chapbook. Featured on this project are activists, poets and youth allies: e.nina jay, AquaMoon, Karenga Ani, Zenif Be.P. and Tekhen Djehuti.Extended Network Banner made with MyBannerMaker.com! Click here to make your own!UnSilenced Woman Press was conceived from the womb of a sista that asks, why be silent now, when now is the time to speak out? This womyn-centered press was birthed August 22, 2005 and exists to cultivate the creativity and voice of girls and womyn of African descent, by publishing emerging and established writers. Our aim is to publish poetry, spoken word cds, dramatic works, memoirs, historical documents, fiction, art work, literary criticism, documentaries, movie shorts, and essays that embrace the many dimensions of being a girl and womon. It is important for us not only to reach the scholarly reader, but we place an equally high priority on making our published works accessible and applicable to that girl or womon on the corner in da hood, in the confines of corporate’s front desk, on lock down in the prison industrial complex, and to those surviving day-to-day.Contact Information: UnSilenced Woman Press 28 E.
