Sylvia accepted Christ into her life and got baptized in the name Jesus at 15, receiving the Holy Ghost at 16 in Tabernacle of Prayer of New Orleans, Louisiana. When she was 17, her family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and she joined Church of the Living God. For six years, she remained a faithful member, testifying, reciting poems for Youth Church, saying welcomes for church programs, witnessing and compelling people to come to church. She also labored in the following capacities: praise/worship leader; choir member; choir, youth, and Daughters of Zion secretaries; mistress of ceremony; editor of United Youth Digest newsletter; youth speaker; Bible Study teacher; and occasionally, Sabbath School teacher.
God called Sylvia to preach at 18 and began to use her in prophecy, discerning of spirits, and laying on of hands. The first message she delivered was "You Ought to Praise God" from Psalm 148:11-12KJV. At 20, the National Holy Convocation of the Church of the Living God, Inc. consecrated her as a missionary. She also served as their national Thanksgiving Committee chairperson for nine years.
Presently, Sylvia, fellowships at the First Church of the Living God of Amite, Louisiana. There, she has worked as assistant church and Sabbath School secretary, praise and worship leader, and mistress of ceremony. She currently serves as the Daughters of Zion (women's group) President. In March 2005, her pastor ordained her as an evangelist. She also currently serves as her church's Program Coordinator.
Sylvia is an anointed vessel that is on fire for God, knows the Word, has faith in God, and loves to pray and praise God. Her testimony is that God will keep you if you want you want to be kept, because God kept her from fornication (sex outside of marriage) for eight years, from age 15 to 23, until she married. Her favorite scripture is Isaiah 26:3KJV, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee." Sylvia truly is an example and inspiration to young people and women as well.Â
