Delusions Of Grandeur

About Me

I've been writing "songs" for over a decade now, but have never had the bottle to form a band, play 'em live, or let anybody other than members of my immediate family even hear them - up untill now that is. Scared of failure I suppose. But I'm past caring now, they need an airing. People will either like 'em, or....they won't. Simple as.

If any unsuspecting venue wants to take a chance on me and give me a gig, then I'd be ever so grateful. Anything considered, from the Albert Hall to Alisha's Attic (who was Alisha anyway?) weddings, funerals, barmitzvahs....anything.

BANGKOK: My most popular Arches open mic night number in all it's poorly produced glory. A paen to the pleasures & pitfalls of the far east, and it ain't Great Yarmouth folks.LIGHT FROM THE SUN: Another song co-written with Tom Heeley. An upbeat anthem that would be number one in 23 different countries from 1st June untill 30th September if there was any justice in the world!SOMEWHERE SORDID: This song like most of the ones I've written is open to interpretation, but I can reveal that there is a car keys in the middle of the coffee table wife swapping element to it, resulting in the pain and guilt that dabbling in such a practice no doubt entails.CHANGE ONE THING: My first ever collaboration. Tom Heeley wrote the lyrics and I added the tune. A simple song, I keep meaning to ask Tom what it's about! Hopefully the first of many songs co-written by Barnsley's very own version of Lennon & McCartney....or should that be Lenin & McCarthy?

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Just me.Could do with a guitarist, bass player, drummer and a keyboard whizz to help turn 'em into something resembling proper songs!I am open to offers. I've even got a band name - THE SALIENT BRAVES - dunno what it means, it's just been in my head for a while and sounds old school indie, it also conjures up red indian imagery, which is good.
Influences: The Brilliant Corners; The Bitter Springs; Half Man Half Biscuit; Pulp; Carter USM; Jim-bob; Abdoujaparov; Only Fools & Horses; Hancock's Half Hour; Ricky Gervais; Ricky Tomlinson; Paul Heaton; The Beautiful South; The Housemartins; Depeche Mode; Elvis Presley; Hovis Presley (R.I.P.); John Cooper Clarke; John Shuttleworth; Frank Sidebottom; Lawrence/Felt/Denim/Go-kart Mozart; Vince Clarke; Squeeze; The Kinks; Early Doors/The Royle Family; Paul Merton
Sounds Like: Amateurish, shambling, home made, lo-fi, bedroom recorded tunes. So...erm...you tell me.

How Hard Is Forming A Band Eh?
