About Me

the PILLS BY POST 10" ep kind words/sinking boat is now available from alex at http://www.pillsbypost.comclick to buy the latest SPRINGS cd's http://www. cargorecords. co. uk/artist/1016 REVIEW FROM FRENCH ONLINE POP MAG POPNEWS OF THE POOR TRACE EP THE BITTER SPRINGS - Big Sweaty Dad How comes the Bitter Springs are still complete strangers to most of us when they have been around since the mid 80s and they have been called "'Best kept secrets" by the British press? Maybe this band of five is not glamorous enough to hit the headlines, spending too much time polishing up the details of their stirring bittersweet songs. Even so, they do not have the exposure they deserve in France. But it is bound to change soon. The band works on a new album (their fifth) which should bring them to fame at last. "'Big Sweaty Dad" is already one of the POPnews team's favourites. It's your turn to get carried along by this whirling chorus.the album AND AS FOR THE RHYMING SLANG CARVERY is moving in the right direction it'll have 14 tracks (at least) including one POWERLESS split into 4 parts across the album . All the usual suspects are on the album plus TRUMPET from the brilliant TERRY EDWARDS of TINDERSTICKS fame and some splendid hammond organ from GRAND DRIVE'S JULIAN WILSON we have now finished the epic DON'T WRITE A SONG ABOUT IT (BIRDMAN) with JOHNY BROWN as the THE BIRDMAN OF WORMWOOD SCRUBS plus LIFEBOAT MAN our tribute to the lifesavers around BRITAINS coast and our longest title since LAST PARTY'S ...WHEN THE FUTURE OF MAN COMES HERE ONLY TO MET BY THE LITTLE POCKETS OF RESISTANCE DOTTED ALONG THE COAST ' or something like that ' with THE LIFE AND NOT ENTIRELY UNEVENTFUL TIMES OF A McALPINE FUSILIER a song for the men who built Englands roads and canals . it's still going to take a while but it's heading in the right direction we are also working on an album as THE POOR PERFORMER which is me and dan from the springs with JEROME from PIANO MAGIC producing and ANGELE from KLIMA sharing vocals on 14 of my songs with some musical assistance here and there from friends it does have a title LIKE YER WOUNDS and is coming along nicely thank you more info as we go there will be a seven inch single as PILLS BY POST with 2 tracks SINKING BOAT and KIND WORDS which is a collaboration with the American artist ALEX ABAJIAN and myself more news nearer the time both songs are finished so we just need to sort out the details and finally we're just about to get PORKY'S RANGE ..LAST PARTY'S debut lp available on line then that will be all the last party stuff available for download then apart from the 2 peel sessions only a thousand vinyl copies of PORKY'S were made originally .. should take about another month untill it's up on all the usual down load sites have a great summer?...simple the poor performerIT'S BUSINESS LIVE AT THE RHYTHM FACTORY last release of 2006 will be poor trace ep .5 songs 25 minutes featuring ALL YOUR OWN WORK // BIG SWEATY DAD // DEEP BLACK WATER // WASSERFARBE //A TEMPORARY HUSH // it's out on Monday November the 6th on Harvey records through cargo . it's been a busy year but it was good to be releasing springs tunes again . we hope to start work on a follow up to THAT SENTIMENTAL SLUSH in the new year . could be making 2 albums at once will have to see how it goes . one LP may be a whole bunch of songs concerning one family and the other could be graced with a glen Johnson at the controls production time will tell? anyway tons of new songs on the go . recorded a great song with piano magic last month i sang on a glen Johnson song ENGLANDS ALWAYS BETTER and wrote some additional words it sounded great in the studio when i left Terry Edwards was just about to put some trumpet on it... look out for that on their next LP in 2007 . we hope to play live a couple more times before the year is out watch this space for details . PLAY ALONG WITH GATHERING DUST CHORDS AND LYRICS at http://www.911tabs.com/link/?3949431 .. width="425" height="350">........ ..>SENTIMENTAL SLUSH the new album hope you don't have to look too hard to find it if you do try www.amazon.co.uk or all good record shops will order it for you and some may even stock it here are some severely edited highlights from the reviews so far published. If you want to read the less flattering quotes then you'll have to buy the magazines yourself. ''Elegantly detailing the pleasurable, painful realities of the everyday grind'' . ''Wise worldly songs with more heart than a coroners lab'' ''Abundant lyrical gifts'' '' Age hasn't got a chance of withering them''- Victoria Segal - Q magazine ''One of the greatest British lyricists we have'' ''The album is jam packed with sublime observations delivered without a hint of pretence'' ''All genius stuff this their best record, demands a much wider audience'' - Glen Johnson - Piano Magic playlist ''Black humour, acerbic lyrics, and a sometimes unsettling dissonance'' - Matt Eastely - Royal mail courier magazine ''The poet laureate of the damp and surly'' ''Moments of black humour and terrifying emotional clarity continue to come thick and fast'' ''Forever in the springtime of their creative powers'' - Jim Wirth - Mojo magazine ''This is beautifully crafted, torpid, classic yet unassuming rock'' Warm and emotional , often sardonic. rarely clichéd - Everett True- Plan B magazine ''Simultaneous razor sharp humour and heartfelt pathos'' ''A stupendous album that should be a contender for the end of the year polls come next year'' ''The world would be bereft for ignoring these auters of lifes experiences'' - Lee McFadden - The Morning Star '' Bitter Springs have forged a masterpiece'' '' You simply will not find music that leaves you with the same emotional resonance after you've played it'' ''Superlative , mind-blowingly vital....... hallelujah - Purly - Amazon .co.ukhere 's a live review from olga at pennyblack music Needles, London, 16/12/2003 Author: Olga Sladeckova Published: 27/12/2003Finally, the headliners, Bitter Springs came up on the stage just before 10:30. The first words, however, didn’t come from the band. An elderly man with a striking white hat confidently took hold of the microphone and with much glamour introduced Bitter Springs. From the reaction of the audience I got the impression there was not really any need for it.It was the first time I had seen Bitter Springs and I was not disappointed. Their songs have a strong story telling element. Simon Rivers, the singer and also song writer, delivered his lines as if he was just coming up with them moment from moment.‘The Red Mist Descends’ and ‘Vagina Trees With Penis Leaves’ from the latest album ‘Suburban Crimes Of Every Happiness’ got a few fans even dancing. Bitter Springs played their music with a natural feel that made you comfortable as if you knew them for a long time. Aside from that they were also very entertaining to watch with Simon dancing and walking in front of the band which consisted of a drummer, guitarists, keyboardist and a violinist.Unfortunately, as a result of the delay, Bitter Springs were forced to cut their set short and the audience were not happy with that. It took a bit of effort to persuade the venue manager to allow the band one more song.check out www.bittersprings.com for more info all the best ..simon
