Miss Modette

I'm dressed up better than anyone else!

About Me

Confident and friendly, I mix with most people. I can't stand pretention or pseudo intellectuals, but I'm otherwise tolerent of other peoples eccentricities.
I suppose you'd describe me as a 1960's/1970's Mod meets Indie chick. I embrace my individuality and love standing out from the crowd. I should have been born in the 60's and I like collecting records, clothes and shoes from that era. I think the music and fashion of the early mods is fantastic, and the ideology is unique.
My Boyfriend Shaun is in a band called The Stray Targets, who have, and I quote, "got the fucking tunes"! He's the funniest most gorgeous person I have ever met. He's so Mod it makes me smile!
I've been described as 'young, smart, self-assured and rebellious'. I'm extroverted, and I'm always out around town seeing live music. I can, however, be very introverted and you can often find me lost in the pages of NME. You can pick me out of the crowd, because I'm the one with the back-combed hair and huge retro sunglasses singing Soul records! I think all fellas should dress in suits and ride scooters because the world is a better place from behind the ostentatious mirrors of a Lambretta!

My Interests

Life with music just seems much more colourful, so if I'm not listening to it, I'm usually singing! You can always find me at the music festivals in the Summer. I love fashion, but I have a very unique (retro) style and mix vintage clothes with Highstreet clothes (Topshop being my favourite!)

I'd like to meet:

Marilyn Munroe, Antonin Artaud, Mary Quant, Aretha Franklin, Keith Moon and most of all Steve Marriot and Paul Weller! But I'll settle for anyone into the Mod Scene.Your results:

The Small Faces classic "Itchycoo Park"!

Music:

I love Indie music, and music away from the mainstream. I love The View, The Enemy, and the 90's Britpop I grew up with! I love 1960's and 70's Mod and I love especially Northern Soul and Motown Soul! I'm addicted to Ska too, and I like it too much for a Mod! Some of my favourite artists are: The Who, The Kinks, The Jam, The Libertines, The Ordinary Boys, The Supremes, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, The Isley Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield (in her Modette days), PP Arnold, The Small Faces, Paul Weller (solo material), The Rumble Strips, Ocean Colour Scene, The Contours, Frank Wilson, The Originals, The Marvelletes Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Junior Walker and The Allstars, Marvin Gaye, Edwin Starr, The Four Tops, James Brown, The Temptations and a whole host of other obscure motown and Northern Soul artists.

Movies:

Pulp Fiction, Quadrophenia, Clockwork Orange, Trainspotting, Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Kill Bill. Basically anything unusual and iconic.

Television:

The Office, Extras, Family Guy and anything that makes me chuckle. I also secretly love Topcat!

Books:

I love 19th Century Literature - anything by Jane Austin is always a favourite!

Heroes:

Marilyn Monroe: Iconic, beautiful and proof skinny doesn't equal beautiful!
Paul Weller: An excellent lyricist and amazing performer!
Aretha Franklin: An extremely talented lady!

The Long Blondes

Just a quick note to say that the Long Blondes were utterly groovy when I saw them in Sheffield a couple of weeks ago.  I even got them to sign a record and I spoke to Reenie's parents on the bus...
